Emory Speer has designated the Brunswick Dally News ss the official organ of the United States Court, In bankruptcy proceedings, for Glynn oouaty. PUBLISHERS NOTICE. The Nows Publishing Company de slreft it to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. Wo cannot afford to devote our space to such advertise ments and wait cm the courts for ths money. The Athena Tribune 'has suspended publication. Probably Mis* Alice is waiting tor a busted nobleman. Governor Terrell's address was short ami to the point. Cold weather is late In coming. Probably waited on the coal strike to end. . / only nt&~ , ~dicjf ru in tin- Geor gia legislature. from Mclntosh (vitunty. Probably Miss Alice would rather marry a titled nothing than a sturdy American. Kuckvfeller lias given Columbia Col lege a hulf million. This is throwing it from him in bunches. Mias Alice Roosevelt's reported en gagement is denied by Miss Roosevelt and she certainly ought to know. Speaker Morris is appointing tils friends to prominent committees. He doubtless is a believer in “to me vic tor belong the spoils. - ’ Ex Senator Hill charges Governor Odell with being a thief, and the lut ter taunts Hill with being “a man who lias never known the love of wo man." Kentucky minister is to preach six sermons on six modern devils- the bad literature devil, the gossip devil, the pleasure devil, the gambling devil, the liquor devil and the groed-for-golii devil. The Mobile Register sagely remarks font "The things to remember are the things which the average man should not forget." And we may add that the things to forget are the things which the average man should not re member. Senator Tillman has not yet tried his hand at settling the coal strike. It's about his turn, wo should say Charleston Post. Senator Tillman ir warm enough. He was not worried in the least over the scarcity of coal. 1 has been charged in fact that the pitchfork statesman is a wuod-kurner anyway. There may he a good deal of apathy as to the election on November Ith. hut it is not in administration circles. President Roosevelt has nearly all of the members of his cabinet stumping at. different points, and each of them is doing tiis level best to whoop up a republican victory. The president Is too strenuous to lie apathetic,- ('spe cially when so much is at stake. The Americus Times-Recorder says: "No, my son. it was no shock of an earthquake, nor tin- roll of mighty thunder you heard, it is only the sound of Governor Candler's brigade of lieutenant colonels rushing to At lanta to he marshalled in mighty ar ray once more before taey lose their jobs and iay aside their gold lace and glittering blades." #THE BANKRUPT LAW. Taerc is strong pressure, at the North, brought to-bear for the repeal of, the bankrupt law, and the- New York Bankers’ Association in conven tion assembled, passed the following resolutions' unanimously: - “Whereas, the present bankruptcy law was passed lor the avowed pur pose of relieving the financial embar rass rast-raents of persons engaged in ■vvotfhy business enterprises anil to en able them to again engage in such business pursuits, and, “Whereas, sufficient time having for the aepompi Iffnment of shat purpose, to continue the said law longer in force induces extrava gant living and reckless speculation, encourages fraud and dishonesty, and impairs the credit of honest, men of small capital, and “Whereas, in its enforcement, and administration, the assets of the deb or are made coinparaitivel/ worthless and the dividends of the eroditors, il anything at all, are made so smad us to be scarcely worth consideration, therefore. "Rsolved, The present bankruptcy law. having outlived ' its usefuln --s, should no longer remain on our stat ute books, and that we, the members and representatives in congress to secure Its repeal at tne earliest posal lle moment." If these presentations tie well ed, the law should bo repealed, it is certain that tne whole question will , lie debated, pro and con. in congress and w>- may patiently await the re sult. SORROW IN ATHENS. i The Athens Tribune of Friday said: I "Nows reached Alliens yesterday of jthe death of Hon. A. 1.. Franklin*city attorney of Brunswick, at ms home l in that city. Mr. Franklin hud been ill only a short time with fever liis remains will lie interred today al (lit l family burial ground near StiiTavfllo, 1 Newton county. For several ye,- is Mr. Franklin was a student, at the Univesity of Georgia, graiiuup there in 1888, after whiea he taught as a tutor in the university, lie mar ried Miss Leila Chandler, of this ity, who survives hith." A Chicago preacher, the Rev. Thus. B. NFiTy, is inclined to the opinion that we are folowlng otir music to per dition. We have demoralized our peo ple by poor music. “John Wesley wouldn’t let nts people sing such stuff and doggerel a is used today in our Sunday schools. He made his people sjpg songs that appealed to the Intel iect ami the soul: Today we have a lot of poor music that is miserable. You can’t make sacred music out of dance music, and we have too many dunce tunes in our song books." Senator Dollivor is of a cheerful dis position, in fact he seems very opti mistic. According to his view the trusts are all going to he killed bv competition and there h: nothing to be done but sit still and watch the fun. The senator does not explain, how ewe, where the c,e,input itiem, which has already been choked to death by the trusts, is coming front. Tnia fail, ure was probably an oversight on his part. This is the way in which the Jack sonville Titues-Union views the mat ter: "It is very true that Mr. Cleve land demands a campaign on the tar iff issue with all the offensiveness of the man who says ‘I told you so.’ But the party which cannot accept a re buke so eminently deserved and so en tirely seasonable lias not the promise of future usefulness nor the vitality wnirh has given it a century's life for the benefit of a great nation."
