Circuit Judge Paarker, of Lexington,

.. AGITATING EXODUS AGALN-
Toe Liberian Colonisation society is
advertising the departure of a fourth
colony from Savannah for Liberia
soiiio time in January, in a bulletin
that is being circulated among the ne
groes, for the purpose of securing ecus
nists occur the following somewhat
sensational statements:
"The south lynches and burns the
negro and will not let hirer vote, while
the north kills him or drives aim from
place to place and liars hint from
work, and huh north and soma tell
him he will die in Africa. Js it pos
sible that God has sealed the negro’s
fate and that he hath not where to lay
his head in peace?
“Who is your true frieud, your so
(tailed leader who tells you to remain
in bondage and; who lives off of your
wont and blood, or he who tells you
of a land where-you can be free and
Have guaranteed to you ad the rights
of full citizenship?
“Have you a care for your children?
Can you secure for them equal rights
In this country? Have you any vote
in making the iaws? If not, go where
you can."
It. is not. believed the deportation of
the negro will reach important dimen
sions for years to come, but we are
quite heartily In favor of letting all
go who will. We are more interested
however, in seeing negroes go to the
north and west in this country than to
Africa. We want to see the negro
question become a national question
instead of a sectional problem for the
south alone.
We want to see the time When the
Massachusetts statesmen and the Illi
nois editor and the Ohio fire-eaters
will discuss the negro problem from
the Tignt of their own experience and
interests and net read lectures to the
south from the standpoint of arrogant
ignorance and sectional malevolence.
Already the scales are falling from
the eyes of many people at ttu
north, and they arc; viewing the negro
question much more rationally. Ne
gro leaders realize Ihat they are view
ed with less favor, politically, than
ever before, and that the republican
party is ready to acquiesce In t.'nelr
disfranchisement, in the hope of
tiros king up the democratic solid
•multi. Bishop Turner, ol the - Afri
can Methodist Episcopal church, who
is the champion of African exodus.
"The negro must leave this country.
He cannot remain in a land where he
has no civil or political rights and
where he Is disfranchised by whole
stales without disturbing in the least
the general government which i.o has
fought and died to maintain hv hun
dreds of thousands."
■ The trouble wilh the negro is that
lie was called on hv the northern re
publicans to do athletic stunts and
dance fancy dances, politically speak
ing before he learned how to walk.
This is against Lie law of nature
and. after a generation of political
outrages upon the south, the north
realizes that the government should
not have given the negro the franchise
and is making tardy reparation by In
terposing no objection to his disfran
chisement.
We do not think the negro exodus
is likely to roach serious proportions
for n good many years, but. see no
reason for Interposing any objection
in the way of agitators.
STILL RUMORS OF HILL.
The Atlanta correspondent of the
Savannah News says:
"It is understood that Hon. Warner
Hill, who was Governor Terrell's cam
paign manager, will apply- for and
probably receive the appointment of
railroad commissioner to suctioeed
Judge Silencer It. Atkinson whose
term expires next October. Judge At
klnson is an applicant for reappoint
upuit,"
