RAPIDLY PLAYING OUT. It appears that the phosphate busi ness is rapidly playing out as the fol lowing from the Gainesville News will show: The Royal Phosphate Company, one of the richest companies engaged in the mining of phosphate in this coun try, lias closed down one of its plants and will not operate the machinery again. This appears to be tne beginning of the end of the phosphate industry in Alachua county. It. is a fact that the deposits are fast playing out and that there have been no new ones found during tho past year. Some of the large companies have spent thousands of dollars prospecting this summer, but the result has been very unsatis factory, There have been hut. a few deposits found and the indications are that Che field lias been pretty well ■i enrolled. Phosphate miners now have no liesi tajtcy in saying that the phosphate In dustry so far as this county Is con cerned, is on tne decline and that with in the next two yeat-s there will be lint one tu.rd the number of plants in operation in mis county that there £p. today. This fact has been demonstrated all summer and there is not a miner who is not confident that the field has been nearly all worked out tnal a few months operation will •lose it forever. There are at present about thirty mines in mat territory, but some of them are not getting out much rock In fact, mere are not the good deposits there used to bo and mining Is more - pensive anu difficult than it was a few years ago, or when the irdusny ,\as in ii< p>i:ne.
