Brunswick is slowly but surely out growing her swaddling clothes, is rap idly forging from town to city and ne cessarily as conditions present them selves, in the course of this very im portant transformation they should be wisely and, properly met. 't in question of education is para mount to all others. Every child in the; city of Brunswick should be af forded an equal opportunity to gain an education. There should be no dis tinction in the matter of advantage, convenience or anything else. Under the present school arrange ments, children residing in New Town arc compelled to walk to the Mans field street school, which is not only an inconvenience to the older students hut is a real hardship to the little tots, who are forced to put in from a mile to a mile and a half of good walking each morning before reaching their school house. Tnls is maifestly wrong and wo feel that it should he remedied without any further delay. Again some of the largest taxpayers of tin; city reside in New Town and it docs seem to us that they should lie afforded any and all advantages ex tended to those who live In other sec tions of the city. A GOOD EXAMPLE. The people of that thriving little city, Wayeross, have recently accom plished a piece of work which would lie well lor Brunswick to emulate. They had a sleepey hoard of trade. Now we do not intend to say that our hoard of trade Is sleepy, on ui< contrary It is wide awake and does as much good as is possible, but here is the trouble. We should have a paid secretary, with sufficient compensation to keep him from being compelled to engage in any other business in that his whole time might he given to the work. This is what Wayeross has done. Her business men got together and employed a competent man at a salary of SIOO per month and he is to give to the work his sole attention. Now Itrnmswiok is fully twice as large as Wayeross and it seems to us that file same thing could be done here if the proper effort in that line was made. 'The present secretary does all in his power lor the good of the commu nity, hut It rnusi be remembered that ilie salary is now so miserably small that it is really not. a consideration in the matter. it was cruel o, that orchestra at a wedding in Newark the other night on the prolonged absence of the groom to strike up mat old familiar ragtime "Won't You Come home limy Bailey." it seems to us that he legislature might find other subjects for reduc tions in the matter of appropriations than that of pensions.
