The rise in price of Illuminat ing oil is attributed to the recent riso in the crude oil market. Since the an thracite coal strike and the conse quent, scarcity of coal, crude oil has sprung Into prominence as a fuel in factories, railroads and furnaces ot all kinds as has the refined product in home use In healers and cook stoves these increased demands have•saused the crude market to soar in the last three weeks. Everything is so hurried, confused, complex, distracting and nerve destroying! If I were only back at East Norley! "Bast summer while 1 was llitre I had to buy n yard of dark blue ribbon, and 1 drove over to the one store at the crossroads to get It. It took some five in ili litis to convince the amialde proprietor that I really wanted dark blue and could not lie persuaded to tie cept light Instead, wlileli lie considered more suitable and becoming to a fair Complex toned person of my years; lie added reassuringly that anybody under forty was not too young for linhy blue. “Another five minutes were given up to his incredulous reluctance to believe that two Inches wide wonld not do an well as three, especially ns the three Inch width had been mislaid on 11 top shelf and he would have to get a step ladder to get It down. Several more minutes passed In thr search for the ladder, its laborious portage from th* cellar, its erection and repair with ft piece of twine, the braces beingjbrokon, and Ids final ascent to tin* dim aml dusty tipper region, whence the box of wide ribbons vtas at I m ill produced. "I found a shade that would do, unit he leisurely measured off a yard, flu gered If, then paused to rub a per plexed ear nikl smile Ingratiatingly, “ ‘Fact is,’ be confided sweetly, ‘I sold the last pair of scissors in tin* store Just before you came in, and I've forgotten my Jackknife.
