LUMBER WENT OVERBOARD. Several Cars Also Came Near Follow ing into the Bay. An accident ocenred at Aikon’s ilool: Saturday afternoon, and. as a result an entire car load of lumber went into the bay. Tt seems that the engine was shift ing cars at the v/harf, and, as it had been raining the tracks were wet and when Ihe breaks were put on the cars did not stop Immediately, one of them going to the end of iho track, and the entire cargo went overboard. However, a force of hands were soon put to work anil the entire cargo was saved, and hut little damage was the result. THE OLD FOURTH GEORGIA. P.union is to be Held at New Orleans on the First Day of Big Reunion The ninth annual reunion of the sur vivors of the Fourth regiment, Geor gia volunteers, will he held in New Orleans on the first day of the gyiera, ireunloin. The lime and place of the meeting can he ascertained at the headquar ters of the Georgia division. This reunion promises to tie inter teresling and il is safe to say that a large number of the survivors are to bo present. Ship Notice. An unknown bark was sighted off Long Island by Lighthoue Keeper Charapaigne Sunday. He at once tele phoned to the city, and it was learn ed that no bark is now due in this port and there is no one who knows what vessel it is. The tug Inca left late, yesterday af ternoon to go to the scene, but, up to an early hour this morning, she had not returned. However, it is not thought that the hark is in very much danger, and she may have been floated on the high tide last night. THE NEW TOWN SOCIETY. Quite an Interesting Meeting Was Held Last Night. The New Town Debating society held quite an interesting meeting last night, and a large number of the mem bers were present. , The subject for the evening was the Colonial History of America, which proved to be very interesting. The program for next Monday night, will 1)0 a musicale, to be participated in by some of our best local talent, and, the meeting promises to he one of unusual interest. Captain Barney Dart will he called upon to make good his challenge, the society hopes that he will render the song, “Woodman, Spare That Tree” to the satisfaction of the audience. Mrs. Josie Williamson is ill to the regret of her many friends. Rufus Jackson spent Sunday here visiting friends. The donkey parly given last week by Miss Florida Livingston was a very enjoyable affair. The evening was spent in playing games and the first prize a large box of candy was won by Mr. Joe Williamson, the se cond prize, a small box of candy was won by Mr. Mason Scarlett and the booby, a bouquet of pink roes went to Miss Eleanor Cloud. The pretty Living-ton home was handsomely de corated with flowers. Misses Eliza beth and Margaret Williamson as sisted the charming hostess. ;Our Goods ! Lambright’s Court. | Justice Lambright convened his court yesterday in regular monthly session Quite a number of cases are to be tried during the week. Auction Sale Today Will be he sold today at 10 o’clock, at Judge Lambright’s office, bureaus, bedsteads, springs, chairs, mattresses, .rockers, clothing, watches, silverware and other articles . Crowds. The excursions’ to Jacksonville and Savannah were well patronized Sun dey and many Brunswickians visited the two cities. A number of Savan na'll people also came over to Bruns wick. Small Crowds. On account of the threatening wea ther Sunday few went to the island but a largo number certainly wanted to make the trip. The Sunday excur sions will be continued and it is safe to say that they will be popular in the future. He is Getting Ready. H. F. du Bignon, clerk of the super ior court, is getting ready for the ses sion of (his tribunal which is to be held this month and when the court is called everything will be in per fect order. Veterans to Meet. The Confederate veterans of Glynn county will hold a meeting at the office of Dr. W. B. Burroughs tomor row afiternoon at 4 o’clock. Some business of importance is scheduled to come up and it is hoped that all the veterans will he present. Tie Riiver is Fresh. The river, from the point at Buz zard's Roost up, is, like some people, very fresh and there is a great scar city of fish right at this time. It will take the water some time to car ry off the fresh part and the fish ermen will hawe to wait awhile. Fine New Press. H. A. Wrench & Son., will shortly receive a handsome now printing press of the Meichle make and it is to be one of the finest, pieces of printing machinery in the state. The press is of the cylinder kind and can do all kinds of color work. Crops in Good Shape. Noth-withstanding the fact that this section ha- had some unseasonable weather lately the crops are iit very good shape and little damage has been done. A farmer told the News yes terday that he had done belter this year than any previous one since he had been farming. Died in Atlanta. AV. J. Waddy, who resided in this ■ city for a number of years, passed away in Atlanta Saturday, Mr.Waddey was connected’ with the Call several 1 years ago, and his work on that paper j will be remembered by many of its old readers. Mr. Waddey’s son, who 1 also resided 'heere, is now secretary to I Attorney General Hart. Some Fine Potatoes. G. AV.
