The News Publishing Company de Blres it to be distinctly understood that ail legal advertisements must be paid for in advance. Read the society col In pShtlcs there'*arc so many men like the flea, "now you see him and now you don't.” According to Senator Cann, the Greater Georgia movement is not pop ular in Savannah. Wish we had been near Mr. Carne gie when lie got that idea about dy ing poor or being a disgrace. Work on Ihe si eel plant goes on and this is sad news for the calam ity howler hut good for the Brunswick living citizen. The Atlanta Journal is now having the editorial paragraph in verse. We did not know there was a poet on the Journal. AVie understand that council will buy no more shells: This means that the work on the streets will stop. We are unable to see the wisdom of such an action. Booker Wasington seems to know his business. A man who can get a half million at a time has a head lull of brains. The dry counties of the state are still having a great deal of trouble with the blind tigar. They always wl - Mr. MclJiurin hates to give up South Carolina. We don't know any thing about the South Carolina end of it. The reform mayor of New York. Mr. Seth Low. is like all other reformers. He does not reform and the worst part of it is that he never intended to. Solomon asked for wisdom instead of riches but then you know Solomon lived a long time ago. Things have cnanged since then. ————— 1 - ■ - ■ - The man who wants to pay his debts and can't is to be pitied but the man who can and wont should be told to move on. Everything has been quite at Nicholls for the past few days. Is the supply of cartridges out? New Town has taken the lead in the debating society line. Now let Old Town and every other part of town follow the example. ARE WE ALL CRAZY? A St. Louis physician is out with the statement that we are all crazy and the worst part of it is that he of fers some arguments that are convin cing and sensible. i This physician does not mean to that everybody is a raving maniac but on certain things. We canont agree with everything this gentolman says hut some of his statement is true, very true. Some men, he 'says are crazy on any subject that can be named and “women” says the physician, are crazy on nearly everything. He says the old slory abqut “his hobby” and “her hobby” Is all fool ishness. He thinks they should say “crazy/ But there is a great deal of sense in everything this man says. An entirely sane man, he argues, has no hobbles. That inan is not living. An entirely sane woman has no hobbies. You know she does not live, at least, you have never met her. Some are crazy on one subject; some on another. Some on money, some on gelling rid of it; some on ambition, some have none. And here that physician goes giv ing statements that we are all sure ate correct. There is no doubt but that every person is crazy on some particular subject. , BRING IN A VERDICT. The News slncerly hopes I hat the present session of the superior court will end Ihe trial of Joe Story, who is In Jail charged with the murder of Hamp Shriver. This ease lias been an expensive one to Glynn county and Ibis expense bill Is growing larger every day the man remains in the custody of the county. Story has been tried twice and a mistrial has been the result in both these trials and now the court is to lei him face a jury again and it is to lie hoped that a verdict will come this time. ,„r—v. <;tJtp about ~ TM'fcows n.iotvc Vet/ its rto .n.'t'm the evidence in the case not having 1* on IV* - ••• •—*-■ In nntm . tain—the man Is either guilty or in nocent and it looks like child's play to try him at every term of the court with the same result each time. WITH PLEASURE. The News takes- pleasure in cor recting the Richmond Times and num erous other papers throughout the en tire south ns to the real author of the beautiful poem "My Wife and Child,” published in these columns on Sunday morning. As was slated in a card from a friend yesterday, the author of this poem was General Henry R. Jackson of llils city. II was written while serving in the Mexican war. The papers have been crediting it to General Stonewall Jackson. LET THE WORK CONTINUE. The News- hears that the council he decided to discontinue the work of improving the streets and we think it an extremely bad Idea. We learn from a reliable source Hint the city fathers have said that no more shells would be purchased and right now when summer is at hand good streets make It a pleasure to drive, poor streets the reverse. The shells are purchased for less thhn a cent a bushel and. takiug into consideration the city's finances anil other things, we think the purchasing of shells and the improving of our streets with them- should continue. The work done this year lias been complimented, not only by our peo ple. but by every visitor. Our comforts should be remember- ' ! *'< There is even to a trust among the royalty of Europe., <*> S-■ • ■■■ The head of the family is not al wuys the man but it is always the member with the fattest pocket book.
