It is true that the location select- i by Uie board of education is a beauti ful one for a school house but it is also true that it suits just what it was intended for —a public park and is undoubtedly an ideal place for this and, as a tax paying people, we think those who reside in the vacini; y oi this pari; should be regarded in the matter. We have heard it said that nature has done wonders for Brunswick and more than man will ever do hut Mr Ballard seems to think that the savin.; cf a few dollars is above all things the most desirable life and in its application to the building he wish es to apply this t ule hut there are other considerations that should he careful ly weigher! before a precedent of this kind becomes the rule and not the exception. Looking this matter squarely in the face, the people of New Town have no objection to the -building of the school house .so that it fronts on the park. The board of education, if it so choos es, may beautify the park for the bene fit of the children, but the citizens object most vigorously to the erecting a building on it. Prof. Ballard stated to council that the only other available site to bo I had would cost in the neighborhood of $2,800.00, but lie.surely cannot be ignorant of the fact that there are lots fronting on the park that can bo purchased for one-third of the amount named by him; lots of sufficient depth I am! sufficient number to erect two such buildings on as the one pro- IJected.
