Reporta from the floods confirm
those first sent out and i.otheing has
been exaggerated.
Nearly every city In the state will
be represented at the corning conven
tion of the bankers.
General Miles has tspen keeping
out of the papers lately but he Is 11a

Excursions, watermelons, and a lit
tle gin on the side. We can see not
a thing between the colored man and
happiness. ,
The committee which Is collecting
the fund for the Gainesville sufferers
' was out again yesterday and II had ex
cellent luck.
The charitable organizations of
this city have always done good work
und have carried sunshine Into ninny
u gloomy home.
There Is no doubt about this being
the excursion season. Every day two
or three leave hero. We would iMhei
see more come and less go.
The school teachers will be here in
large numbers the latter part of the
month and both Brunswick and Cum
berland will give them a warm wel

The News is gtaJ >o ike grand
Jaj taking more interest 11 the pro
tection of our 9b scl g< ne a::d we
sinterely hope they will continue to
do so.
We never have been able to get at
the bottom of the various bills which
are to bo Introduced al the coming
session but we suppose wbeu the time
tonics the people will be advised.
CAUSING SOME THOUGHT.
The matter of establishing small
manufacturing Industries In this city
is causing some serious thought and
we think the day is not far distant
when we will have them scattered
from one end of Brunswick to too
other.
There Is no doubt then but that
the future of the city Is assured.
Look at our oyster factories and
the large number of people they ern
piy um! you can readily see that
the small industries are the city buil
ders. If we had a dozen factories
like those, or we mean about the size
of those mentioned above, ws would
bv iu a splendid condition.
GO TO THE MEETING.
The Brunswick board of trade will
hold a very important meeting at the
city hall at eleven o’clock this mora
les nail it Is very important that ev
ery member of the organization should
attend.
Some development* with reference
to the steel plant situation are expect
ed and this, just at this time, is a
subject that should have the most pro
found thought on the part of tbe
people of this city. There are many
ways that we, of Brunswick can bet
ter our material condition if we will
only take advantage of favorable op
portunities as they, from time to time,
arise.
This Is one of them.
Indeed, this Is a time if the
people of Brunswick will come to
gether in a common cause, great re
sults will be achieved, which, in the
end, will placo this city in the fore
trout of the great manufacturing cen
ters of the south.
Let every member of the boa r d he
on hand this morning and attest by
his presence, if not In any other way
that bo stands ready to aid in the work
which is paramount to everything
else at this time.
The capitalist from fhe Pacific
to the everglades has admired
the pluck and the energy dis
played by this little city in
raising a third of a million dollars in
a few days for an enterprise, the com
ing of which was devoutly desired and
which would have made iLs future
a certainty.
It Failed.
Not because of any lethargy on our
part, not that w e failed In a single in
stance lo meet our obligations, not be
cause liberal concessions were not
made in the way of tax exemptions
and donations for site purposes. But
for the reason that the men with
whom wc were dealing were promot
ers, and not financiers, and they fail
ed to catch the attention of the men
who have capital to Invest.
Now then what Is to he done?
Wc will tell you.
Interest caplial ourselves and save
the fee of the middle man.
That’s it.
Go down to the b * and jt trade inert
iug and discuss this matter and take
such action .is will bring our propo
sition to the attention of the Invest
ment hunters.
A steel plant of modern proportions,
a dry dock, a ship building plant, and
countless small industries are all with
in our scope.
Go down to the meeting, forget ev
erything hut Brunswick and her In
terest and we will yet gain the goal
of a laudable and long cherished am
bition.
Only Go.
