Any kind of newspaper advertising pays uioie or less, and that is the reason why it is rigilt easy sometimes for people to get testimonials on the subject. Bui the reading public ev ery day are getting mure in the habit of looking to the newspapers for the boot tniMiiess pc..pie, tae greatest in duceiuenls for buying, and the Jesuit is that the advertising possibilities are constantly Increasing. Take the i . . business Hut; the News is doing today Jd the way of advertising and it is email compared with the possibilities 01 tlic future, nut it is large eompareu with what we were doing a lew years fSm A DEED FROM THE 15th CENTURY So it is Peter 1., by the grace of God and the temporary suspension of the sixth commandment King of Servia. Servia Is a little country, but there is a melodramatic audacity about its political crimes that compels the fas cinatcd attention of the world, in trigue, assassination and revolt has characterized Its politics ever since it won its autonomy from the Turks a century ago. Like some of its neigh bors the country is still in its middle ages. In its palace plots Caesar Bor gia would have felt himself lri the congenial atmosphere of home. For a hundred years the Servian government hits vibrated between twro peasant families—the house of the farmer Black (Kara) George and that of the swineherd Milos Obrenovitch. Black George In 1894 led the revolu tion that first freed Servia from the direct rule of the Turks, and after some vicissitudes of fortune he wa. murdered in 181? by an emissary of Milos. Milos and his two sons, Milan and Michael, were successfully princes of Servia until 1842, when Michael had was elected in his place, rnfwypk to abdicate and the son of Black George, Alexander Karageorgeovitch, was elected in his place. In 1859 Al exander was evicted in his turn, and the old Milos, who had abdicated twenty years before, was invited back. After a rolgn of a year he died and Michael got a second term. The Kut ageorgeovitch parly picked him ofl hut could not get ttaotr own man in and thq throne passed to the notoi lous Milan, tin- enlment royal black guard in, Europe, in whose company his granduncle Milos’s swine would have had a right lo feel disgraced. Milan succeeded in getting Servir promoted from a principality to at Independent, kingdom, hut he finally found it expedient io follow the Sei vian fashion, of abdication ll.’ passed on his throne and bis vices to his not. Alexander, a being almost unspeakable as himself Now the Karageorgeovitches havt their turn again, and as they liavi made a pretty thorough job of tin rival dynasty this time the filed ina: flicker for lack of mate: ial to burn But what sort of reception will tin civilized governments of the world give lo the new king after be lias literally waded through i.lood to hi. throne? In the middle ages he woul, have been effusively welcomed, tun. that is the spirit of the Servians now. Will the other soverigns send specia, embassies to congratulate Peter upon the favor with which It has pleased p-ovidenco to honor him? Or will lu be treated like poor Queen Draga, who was “cut” by the wives of tin foreign ministers because they thought her too unmindful or certain rules that women are expected to remem ber? - iHi AN ILLINOIS MOB.
