Are file f'rlendi. of Men, All trees display constantly and broadly their naturo and the marks of the class to which they belong. The oak. elm, willow, birch, hooch, together with poplar, ebostnut and pine, are among our native born trees, and those most familiar to us as the ancient land marks, remembered so well in child hood the mulberry, olive, ilex, hem lock, spruce, apple, pear and cherry trees so to make up the almost sacred circle of friends so dear to us because they arc monuments of other and hap pier days. The homestead and Its associations recall all the dear old trees so fondly cherished In days “lung syne” and so dear to me now that it Is pleasant to write what I know of their history, utility and why they are valuable as lumber or the more valuable mechan ical need whirl) they meet. They all afford the human race a certain amount of reliable service and are the founda tion of many industries. They furnish the ships that cover the ocean with white sails and afford easy commu nication with all nations. The arts and sciences depend upon them for substantial aid in completing palaces and churches and all tlie grand and lasting buildings which have dotteu the earth with beautiful cities and comfortable dwelling places for man. And thus we find that the trees are really the steadfast and never failing friends of men.- Exchange. An Anecdote of nriurnolt. Though one of tlie most nervous sing ers that ever went before an audience, Brigffoli in Ids way w r as one of the most conscientious. He refused to slug if he did not feel that iiis roice was In a condition to do justice to the song and to himself. lie was a firm believer in homeopathy and was never without two small vials, one contain ing bryonia and the other spongia, which he used alternately. His body servant. Kurbagelutn, usually admin istered Uie drug. On one occasion it happened that Barbagelata gave him a larger quantity of bryonia than he hail asked for. but, like the faithful servant that he was, lie informed his master of the mistake. Brlgnoil was furious. He thought he was a dead man. He raved and storm ed and swore as only he could swear. Barbagelata. thinking to relieve bis mind, swallowed the entire contents of the vial. “You see. Signor Brlgnoil, there Is no harm in the medicine.” he said. "All. misery.'" cried Brignoli. forget ting his own danger at once. “You ale a dead man! What have you done?" All tile doctors in the neighborhopd were sent for. and all had to testify that the drug was harmless before LBrignoli would believe that Barbage- Ikitn could survive.
