BRUNSWICK'S "KICKERS.” It there is one thing dlspicable on this earth it is the man or woman who is continually ruining down his or her own community. This cheap brand ol smartness is rife in Bruns wick ami it has been one of the strong eat factors against our prosperity and Thee* a.re__and croacliers iin all countries. Probably they are lndigenerous to every planet. At any rate, the one on which wo "live move and have our being'' is cursed with tills übiquitous parasite. He or she exists In all grades of society Even the 400 is not immune or exempt from this pest They grumble al ev ery tiling. They criticise everything and everybody. According to their creed the world is fast going to the 'delimit ion how wowa." ltnt above oil their own town ia all wrong. What ever happens they ascribe It to the fault of the town. This sort of thing one hears every day. tf it ruins "its just like Bruns wick ," it its dry, they blame poor old 'Riuuswju-k Just the same. Ail the short coinings of the people orinstitn- Aions, and all the diapensafloins of Providence, or results of the immuta ble laws of tile univesre, they are all charged up to our elty notwithstanding the fact tliai accounts of calamities of all sorts till the columns of the daily papers all over kite country—ca tastrophes that didn't happen in Brunswick. This is all wrong. It la more than wrong. It is contemptible One cheerful optimistic man or woniUi who loyally defends our city and be lieves in her is worth twenty of these earplug pessimists who diffuse the# lack oi faith and critical spirit around them to the Inevitable Injury, even if in ouly a small degree of the welfare of the community. For health, climate and natural ty our city stands unrivalled. Our winters are delightful, our summers are really not very hot and our trump card is the glorious sea breeze that Is always with us. Our city is prosperous and has a great future Hihead. the critic- and fault finder take a hack seat. There is no room for him in our town. It' he caut talk for his town let him keep •juiet ills smarting and lack of faith dons help matters and they get on other people's nerves. Boycott the croaker, ostrasise the "town killer,' exterminate the species from our midst, for this ineuwbus removed, Brunswick will soon realize the great future marked out for Iter nature and destiny, A GOOD SIGN. It is a recognized fact that the pros perous condition of schools anil churches is a sure sign of the pros perity of a town. According to the rule wo have certainly a very strong indication that Brunswick is solidly prosperous. Tlie financial condition of the churches in this city is remarkably good. These churches are not only free from debt, but they are living and Working institutions. Repairs and im provements are the order of the day. The congrogaton of the First Meth odist church is working faithfully on a fund for anew church, and at present, the parsonage is being added lo and Improved. Tht members of tlie Shiloh, church (colored Baptist) arc building a brick church. The new school buildhig which will he com pleted by fall, is another evidence ol Brunswick’s growth and prosperity, and such eveidouce is tin; best sort, showing tiiat the growth is solid and that the improvements are in the right direction The News yesterday, though It was tio fault of ours, reported that the pope was dead. This information was received from our regular news agency In New York, and while we only lun a short dispatch announcing the death we, of course, thought it was authentic, but wired for full particulars Before an answer was received, how ever, the Western Union wit.-, closed We then endeavored to reach some out of town papers by telephone to gft the report verified, but, a.s usual, a long distance connection can never lie secured when one really wants lo use the line However, the pope was not dead, and the News deeply regrets Hie error , lint thinks it was no fault of ours. Cnllnnr? ('ourtnlilt> Janet lmd molded tin* domestic Rf fairs of a ItoKton family for so many years that the news of Imr intended marriage had much the effect of an earthquake. “Have you and David been 2traced loan?*’ ventured the tnlg tress of tin* household. “One week when next Sabbath pours.” stated Janet briefly “And-and had you any thought of marrying before that?” asked her mis tress. “Times 1 had and times 1 had not,*’ *>hid the Imperturbable Janet, “as any person will But a month ago when l gave* David a wee bit of the cake id been making and he said to me*. ‘Janet, ’time you the recipe ttrm tn your mind, lass, bo you could make it if Mm Mann’s hook would be far from your reachV* I knew well the time was d”nw lug short. “And when,’’ said Janet, closing her ayes at the recollection. I said to him, ‘David, lad. the recipe Jh copied in s little book of my own.’ and l saw the glint In Ids eye I reckoned ’twould be within the mouth he' I ask me. | Youth’s Companion. Wflfr llel'or** While the general opinion of thoaf supposed to lie authorities on this mut ter has been that the habit of drinking water at meals Is a deleterious one, it la now stated, according to icccnt in vestigations. that a little water. If not too cold. Is beneficial, as It assists tu the digestion of food. A too copious supply of water dilutes the gastric Juice, and If too cold it lowers tin- tem perature of the stomach below normal, thus Impairing digestion If, however, water Is taken in limited quantities. th peptones formed by the action of gas trio Juice on loop will lie w ashed aside, thereby facilitating absorption By this means tin- undigested food is laid bare and is more susceptible to further a Bon of tlie gastric Juice. During the period of rest phlegm, being very tena clous, prevents the free flow of gastric Juice for some time, hence delays di gestion. A drink of water before meals le recommended because it loosens and washes away this deposit of mucus, thereby permitting the gastric Juice to attack the food ns It enters the atom ach.—Boston Transcript. If the food you eat fails to g:ve strength to your body. It is because the juices se creted by the stomach and digestive oigans are inadequate to transform the nutrient prop erties of the food into biood. That is Indigestion. The system is deprived of the amount of nourishment required to keep up the strength, and the result is that one or more of the delicate organs gradually grows weak, and then weaker, until finally it is diseased. Here a great mistake Is made. That of treating the diseased organ. The best doctors in the land make this very mistake. Why should they V It is so easy to see that the trouble is not there. Kodol Cures This famous remedy puts the stomach and digestive organs in a healthy condition so ihat rich, red blood is sent coursing through the veins and arteries of every muscle, tissue and fiber throughout every organ of the en tire body, and by Nature s law of health, full strength and vigor is soon restored to each. Many waiters have hands that art more callous than a blacksmith's or ironworker's. The callousness comes* front carrying hot plates, coffeepot* and the like. I'iie heat seems to fry their skin and to make a dead surface to keep them from being burned by things that a man with ordinary hand, could not stand. It may have puzzled people who go to some restaurants tv notice how the waiters hold things in their hands for some time which art too hot for the hands of the people at the tables even to pass to one another This is the explanation: That the wait er's hands become callous and hard, so that the tough skin at the surface has no more feeling than a piece or horn.
