BRUNSWICK. GA.. SATURDAY MORNING, JULY IS. 1903.
PILOTS HANDLED
'THE SHIP WEIL
Savannah Sailors Failed

Buoy.
GALE BLEW AGAINST IHI M
Walker's Waves Washed Too Swift
for the Chatham Aggregation in
the Game Yesterday.. .Score
Was 4 to 0.
The Pilots tools a little cruise yes
terday the waters were
not tempestuous; Tew craggy rocks
appeared in their channel and. af
ter a few breakers had tossed over
them, they landed in a very safe har
bor. True it was that, occasionally the
entire ship’s crew' had to battle against
the foe, but somehow a beacon’s light
was before the gallant tars from be
ginning to end,and the mad waves
from Tyliee light finally lost themsel
ves in the waste places of Hie marshes
of Glynn.
It was a good game of baseball
one of the btest ever witnessed on the
local diamond—ami while the Pilots
won out by a score of 4 to 0. they had
a hard battle and the four scores were
all made in the second inning. In
this inning, with four singles and an
error by the Savannah pitcher, the
Pilots succeeded in crossing the home
plate four times, which was sufficient
to capture the -game.
After this inning both ships sailed
jtih eir course, • well so clear that
not another man reached the home
buoy. A northeast gale seemed to
blow oil the Savannah sailors and they
tacked for four innings before buoy
No. 1 was reached. One of the crew,
iu the sixth inning, did reoch buoy
No. 3 but a floating obstacle jabbed him
broadsides atul he went down.
Walker, at tlie helm of the Pilots,
steered his sffiin beautifully. The vis-
break
ers, and just cP<o¥
them look like flounders. As for base
hits, the Savannah hoys were in need
of a mast, a sure enough mast, or
probably the rudder (it is wider) and
they might have succeeded in steer
ing into some of Walker’s waves.
in the fourth iiiuihg there came a
storm; the Savannah ship rocked in
ibe cradle of the deep, tempest tossed
hovered between the terrific tide of
vV@lli.er and the awful breakwater of
Bowen. Indeed,
“It hove and sot and sot and hove,
“And wide the rudder filing,
"And every it hove and sot
"A deeper it sprung.”
The crowd was one of the largest
of tiie Season and to say that they
inning the visitors put up an errorless
ing it mildly. The game was clean,
snappy and replete with good plays
by both sides, and barring the second
inning the visitors put up an errosless
game.
