When I w*V a young man, said an
old •inter. I was employed in> an Ohio
town of some I.SOO inhabitants. One
day the town was billed from roof to
foundation in flaming letters. "They’re
Coming!” One couldn't go amiss of the
big letters. They followed him every
where. and half the town would awak
en in the middle of the night with those
huge letters staring them in She face,
whiie they wondered what it all meant.
A week or more passed, and one
morning every one of those signs was
covered with another equal!:, (laming
"They Have Come; at Town Hall To
night !” And you may be sure the town
turned out in force. There wasn't stand
iug room, although u liberal admittance
fee was charged. Inside a big curtain
excluded the stage, and to this all ey*>s
were turned as the appointed hour drew
near. There was a little delay, and It
was about half past 8 when the curtain
slowly rose, disclosing to view another
or the big lettered signs, only the word
ing was different this time.
The sign read "They Have Gone!”
And you can bei your last dollar it
wasn’t long before the townspeople had
gone. Some clever follows had worked
the game successfully and got away
with a snug little sum, leaving only a
couple of townspeople to pull up the
curtain.
A Lost Art.

BRONCHITIS
m .
We Know is Hard to
. Control.
Our Vinol is Making a Won
derful Record in Curing
This Dangerous
v Disease.
CALL AND LET US TELL YOU
ABOUT IT.
Here is a letter that has just come to
our attention. It will interest people
suffering from bronchial troubles. It
is frpm Mr. Gao. W. Brown, of So. Flan
ove#, N. 11, and reads as follows :
“ I have suffered with bronchial trou
bles for over a year ; tried two doctors
and have taken three or four kinds of
medicine, none of which did me any
good. At times I was so hoarse I
could not speak. Then I heard of
Vinol. After taking three bottles of
it my voice lias perfectly returned to
me. I can sec that in n short time I
will be all right. When I began to
take it I was very weak, but it has
built me up and given me a good appe
tite.” ‘ •
Tin’s is what Vinol always does.
This is the way Vinol accomplishes its
mission of doing good.
Vinol, as we wish every one to know,
owes : .ts power of accomplishing the
cures that it effects to the fact that it
contains the most wonderful medicinal
elements known to science for the cure
of all wasting diseases, as well as be
ing in itself a marvelous tonic. These
medicinaipropertiesexist and have here
tofore been found only in cod-liver oil.
Vinol contains these elements. For by
a scientific process the necessary cura
tive properties of the cod-liver oil have
been separated from the fat and grease
which formerly made cod-liver oil prep
arations so objectionable.
As long as Vinol does noteontain any
of the vile-smelling oil, and is pre
pared by combining the sought-after
properties with a delicate table wine,
it is a most delicious and palatable
preparation.
We know of what we speak when
we recommend Vinol, and because
we do know that Vinol does all we
claim for it, we unhesitatingly en
dorse it, and guarantee at any time
to refund the money paid for the
remedy if you are not satisfied It
will do all we claim for it.

Ofe.d..rr,
-One of the most remarkable cases
Iq my experience," said a country doc
tor. "was an old woman in a flslier
man’s hut on the Carolina shore It
was a long, dreary drive of tea miles,
sad when I reaehed the place I found
that the only occupant besides the sick
woman was n skit of a girl, who was
utterly worn out by weeks of care nnd
nursing. 1 examined the patient and
tound every sign of early dissolution.
Her pulse was growing feebler, and 11
was only a question of a few hours. In
my mind, before the end would come.
The Idea of tho girl being left alone in
that hut touehed me. nnd I derided to
reman with her. even though the tin
expected happened and the old Indy
lived through the night. The men of
the hut were fishermen, and .they
would probably he bsok the next day.
So I sat with the girl In the corner of
tlie room and told her what 1 intended
to de.
“ ‘Won’t slip get well?’ asked tho girl
after I had explained as mercifully ae
t could.
“ ‘No.’ 1 replied, she will not get
well. She will die tonight.’
“Just then there was a feeble movo
ment on the bed, and a thin, angry
voice drawlef, out: ’lt ain’t so. I won’t
die. 1 expect to eut the goose th
eats the grass off of your grave.’
“Oh. j’e*. She's quite well now, and

Light hi thrown upon the unfinished

"I ventured to ask him what method
he pursued in the composition of works
and If they wore all completed before
going to press. By no means.’ tie re
plied. ‘They are not written beyond
the part that is to he published at a
given time. But the plot, the motive
of the hook, is always perfected in my
brain for a long time before I take up
my pen. I add a great deal to the
original idea as 1 work on. hut as I
always know the end of tile beginning
I can safely commit my work in parts
to the press.' ”
“ ‘Rut suppose,’ I stammered, with
jttst a little awe and wonderment in
my voice (only the temerity of youth
eould have induced me to say such a
thing), ’suppose you died before all
your work was written ?’ ”
‘“A-h!' he said, and paused, then
added. ‘That has occurred to me at

piercing look seemed to he penetrating
