A special difficulty has also been found in the attempt to place Mercury in the weighing scales. We can weigh the whole earth, we can weigh the sun. the moon and eve® Jupiter and other planets, but Mercury presents difficulties of a peculiar char acter. I.e Vendor, however, succeeded In devising a method of weighing it He demonstrated that our earth 1o attracted by this planet, and he showed how tiip amount of attraction may be disclosed by observations of the sun, so tti.it from an examination of the ob servations lie made an approximate determination of the miss of Mercury, be Vendor's result indicated that the weight of the planet was about tlie fif teenth part of tile weight of the earth, in other words, If our earth was placed in a balance and flfjyen globes, each equal to Mercury, were laid in ttie oth er the scales would hang evenly.—egt cy of tho Heavens." tply Hindoo tveniea. THE BRUNBWICK DAILY NEWB. A Case of It. MANY MORE LIKE IT IN BRUNS WICK. The following case is but one of many similar occurring daily in Bruns wick. It is an easy matter to verify its correctness. Surely you cannotask for better proof than such a conclusive [ evidence: Mrs. C. F, Noble, wife of C. F. Noble ■lent ist, residing at 200 K street, (jays: •‘I used Boon’s Kidney Pills for back ache, and t hey gave me great relief. I can recommend them very highly. 1 have suffered with back-ache for quite awhile. A dull, heavy, bearing-down pain existed across the small of my back, causing me at times great mis ery and suffering. I tried several rem edies and liniments, but with no ap parent, effect. Seeing Doan’s Kidney Hills advertised, I sent to Hunter’s pharmacy and obtained a box of them. Since using them the pain in my back has disappeared, and 1 feel improved in health generally, i can rfecommend Doan's Kidney Pills, and believe that they do all that is claimed for them.” For sale by all dealers. Travelers received by the sultrn of Morocco were ut one time required to make Hie customary obelsanre of the country, but that ceremonial is now omitted. Tlie reason, according to La dy Grove'ln her '•Seventy-one Days’ Camping,” goes back to a slight social awkwardness involved in carrying out that prescription A distinguisheduiaturnlist had been presented to the sultan, and as he bowed his head to'tlie ground, Instead of supporting himself with his hnnd he placed them behind his bnck; coni sequently Ids forehead came ngainat the marl.le floor with a lend bang, nno he had some difficulty In recovering himself. The sultan was amazed. “Has not the gentleman had the honor of enter ing the presence of his own sovereign 7“ he asked another visitor luter. “Probably he lias had that honor, your majesty,” was the answer. “Then,” said the sultan, “he should have learned the art of making saluta tions without the occurrence of such accidents.” Thereupon his majesty learned with astonishment that this lowly form of obeisance Is not observed at European courts, and he immediately decreed that none twit the usual customs de manded by European sovereigns should be required of Europeans when they entered or left his presence. A Close Combination. “They enn get up combinations in the west to beat the hand,” said a Phila delphia drummer who had come in oil a trip and had a shortage to explain. “In a town in western lowa I had a difference of opinton with a landlord and culled'him a liar. He was a depu ty sheriff, and he arrested me. His brother was prosecuting attorney, and he was against me. Tho Judge was his brother-hi-law, and he tried the case. I said I’d take ten days in Jail sooner than pny the flue, but when I dime to be halted up the Jailer said t me: " 'You'd better pay. I'm the father in law of the judge, ard it will be my duty to put you In a cell with a pris oner who's gone crazy and wants to kill somebody.' “I paid and was *eleased,“ said th“ drummer, "but I wanted revenge. 1 went to the only lawyer in town with a reputation and‘Stated my case and asked him to take It Notice of the first meeting of the creditors, in the District Court of the United tales, for the Hastern Division of title Southern District of Georgia, in Bankruptcy. The weather yesterday was cori.sid -1 ably cooler than it has been for the past several days, and a good breeze prevailed all during t he day. The Atlantic & Birmingham rail road is advertising their excursion of next, week to be t lie biggest of t he sea son, and it is expected that several hundred people will come down. Everything is unusually quiet iti Glynn county court circles at present. No court will be in session until the second Monday of next month, when the City court will meet in regular session. Things are even quiet in the Justice courts. A shipment of the best peaches seen here this season arrived yesterday, and were on sale at all of t he fruit stands. Only two more days of July, and then we can swelter in August . We can feel the change now for the warmer. If Brunswick was a large city, the News could print a story this morning which would cause a majority of our people to talk for weeks to come. One of the Atlanta papers would give a neat sum to have the item occur there. The puzzle contest inaugurated by H. M. Miller & Son, the well known furniture dealers, is attracting con siderable attention, and a large num ber of little girls are trying for the pretty junior range which is to be given away.
