J Vct*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*l*t i| There is lobbying, but catching on to It Is another thing. Let us think a minute. Yes, there wae such a man as Miles. He vs as at one time head oi the army. There was a very close vote in the British parliament ot the Irish land bill, the government narrowly missing defeat. The legislature adjournes this week. They might have done that a month ago and saved the litatee some money. But then they have passed a few hills amd had one or two scraps. Humors of a Cubau revolution have beou going the rounds and It looks very much like trouble is coming. The fact of the matter is: A Cuban is never happy unless in trouble. The man that predicted the assas slnatiou of President McKinley now predicts that Cleveland will be nom inated by the democrats and will de feat Koosevell. Says an excsnge "The tact that a dozen towns In New Jersey have combined for the purpose ot extermi nating the mosquito shows how thoroughly that state is permeated with the trust Idea." Governor Jelks. of Alabama, has ' Issued u proclamation ordering tha. the books selected by the uuitorm tox. book commission be used exclusively In the public schools of that s'.uie. The car factory recently established at Waycroas has Just received an or der from the Southern Hallway Com pany for 100 cars, which are to he built and delivered to tmeui as quickly as possible. . Tfue Thomaßvllle Tluies-Enterprise is soon to enlarge lo a seven-columt sheet and will make a number 01 other improvements. The Ttines-En terprise has grown considerably dui mg the past few years. Andrew Garuegle has giieu two iin m. half million dollars to Dumtermliuj, Scotland, the city of his birth air. Carnegie s wealth, is increasing to rapidly that he has to give a lot o; it away 10 keep his fortune from gm ting 100 large to handle. The evidence of the Jett White mui aer case in Kentucky is so conflicting chat it begins to look like the jury will have a hard time in making a verdict Ample evidence has been introduced to show the guilt of the ac cused, if the jury believes the wit nesses introduced by the state. But the influence of the feudists rather tbac the evidence seems to control to this case. THE LYNCHING RECORD. Last Sunday's issue of the Binning- Ingham Age-Herald presents the fol lowing statistics as to lynx-hinga in the United States during the ilrst six months of the present year: Forty-ntoo lynching:; iiave occurred as follows: Alabama, <; Arkaasiis. 3, Dele ware, 1; Florida, 5; Georgia, it, Illinois, 2; Loiiisana, 0; Mississippi, It; Missouri, 4; Montana, I: Tonnes see, 1; Texas, 4: Went Virginia, I, Wyoming, l- lu May and June over half of the year’s lyn< hings occurred Nineteen persons were lynched in the montili of June, and five cases only did "the usual crime” have part The other 14 victims of molt rule in June were charged with murder or coin pllrlty Jn murder. Thin simply ll luslrates anew the rapidity extend ing scope of Judge Lynch’s jurisdic tion. ' A GOOD WORK. The work now being done in Bruns wick by tiie civic league should be commended by our people generally. A few public spirited ladles, with civic pride, have taken charge of a number of our squares and, by hard work,, have succeeded in making them a credit to the city. Heretofore these places have presented the appearance of a hog pen, or the like; were a dis grace to our city, and not a few of the visitors this summer have commented on the appearance of Jekyl square, opposite the court house It demonstrates that our people take pride in their city; that, they want some|hing to attract fte attention of the visitors. To let them know that we appreciate flhelr visits. The few enterprising and energetic women who are now engaged in this good work should he joined by others, ami the people of Brunswick generally sbuld give them encouragement and support. THE NEED OF A HOTEL.. The present summer has demon strated to the people of Brunswick the need of a first class hotel at St. Simon. Hundreds of people have visited the popular resort during the past two months. Hundreds of others would have gone there had the island offered ample accommodatlons. f3i, Sittion Is, beyond any doubt, the best summer resort in the south; it has the surf, the beach, the delicious breeze. Is easily reached, and has ev thing else that goes, lo make an ideal place for the tired people to resi in comfort for a tew weeks. There lias been rumor after rumor that "St. Simon would have a hotel sure by next season." Tills ruinoi is now current in the city and wo cer laiuly hope there is some truth in It.
