COUNCIL AND THE NEWS.
There are some people in this com
munity who seem to be under the ini
ptession that The News is opposed to
any and everything the city council
does.
This is u mistake.
We huve applauded that body when
they have done right; we have con
demued them when they have done
wrong. No man can point to a single
instance where The News Iras been
unfair with the city fathers, and our
papers are on file in our ollh o subject
to Che inspection of the public
The News has boon an honest news
paper and will continue to be, regard
less of the consequences.
We congratulate the council upon it
reduction ol’ the city debt, but then
arc things that they lia\o done which
ifilore than balances this good.
We believe the men in council are
honest, we do not nu an to say tiuu.
there is a single one of litem win.*
would stoop to any dishonest uo aim
we do not mean to hint at such a thin,,,
but we do say that there is TOO
MUCH HOLII ICS m the council cham
ber.
We cau prove that all the members
have not voted for the best -those
best fitted, foi public ollices and this
stands out as a rebuke to the partisan
members oi this board.
Relegate factionalism, and the ah
ministration will go down in history
a© among the best we have ever had
Remember, gentlemen of council,
you have been put there by the peo
ple and thece poop*e did not tueu,
and do not now. expect you to avf
at things from a partisan standpint.
But as far as The News is concern
ed, we want to emphatically say, that
when you are right we are with you,
hut when you are wrong, we will
criticise and condemn you.
WHAT IS THE TROUBLE?
The News Hiieard the lire department
severely criticised yesterday, and .as
we are not able to judge these mat
ters, may we ask:
What is the matter?
