September I2 and thoise weeds are not cut down. The average visitor falls dead In love with those weeds. A maniac and pistol are two things it is impossible to legislate against. The weeds are so healthy. How. kind inf the sanitary department of the city In keep them growing. Brunswick's commercial bodies should lake a hand In the srlke sil nation with a ylew to an adjustment of the thing, Tim cable messages say that engi neering firms otf Bolfafit have no tified 8,000 employees that wages will he reduced 8 per cent in October. David 11. Hill Is vain enough to believe that lie can lie the democratic nominee for president next year. David has much confidence In Da vid. What i <he matter with Delewaro that site should indulge in lynching# and race riots? Hereto lore she lias been an calm 3 a May morning. One of the things needed in this country is workingmen instead of millionaires in congress, men who wn represent millions of men Instead of millions of dllars. General Simon H. ’luckner, Ike bug candidate for president, Is now aiding the republicans of Kentucky. It in hard lo tell where a polillclau who Hosts from one party to another will finally land. It is a source of great, pleasure to us to note the fact that the city council has concluded to proceed with ilv* 'miprovements of the city hospital. It is an institution that should have had attention long years ago. What an ideal world this would ho if cleanliness were the rule every where and iu everything—clean houses, clean streets, clean bodies, clean hearts, clean accounts and clean characters, remarks an ex change. ALAS HOW TRUE. The following la from the Albany Herald and its genuine truth lias im pressed us very deeply. Editor At• n tosh generally gels to the bottom o; things, and ho has certainly done son in this ctuse; "I’resident Roosevelt has ordered the removal of Miss JtuUiali 11. Todd, y l rom Green wqod, Delaware, postofflee, oui the ground that sho is “obnoxious" to Senator Allen. Mrs. Todd is a white woman and has served in the capacity of postmistress for six years ie the bUUru satisfaction of the geo pie, so far as the record shows. Hut she has been summarily removed with three years of the term for which she wa> last appointed uue.x piled. Tins case briugs up one in striking contrast from the state of Mississippi. There a uegro woman, Aliunie Lot., at Indiauula, was ob- noxious not only to the senators of th® state, hut to the people of Indianola as well. Yea 'President Roosevelt refused to let her resign after she decided that it would be best for her to do so. and she Is still being paid her salary by Ihe government, although no longer rendering any service. In comparing his official action in the two cases it looks like being a negro insures the favor and protection on Roosevelt over and agiainst all comers, especially in the south. In the two cases here cited wliat constituted a crime in a white woman in Delcware benamvu a virtue in a negro woman in Mississippi, NEW ERA FOR THE SOUTH. According to the annual report of Secretary Hester of the cotton ex change.the cotton crop for the year 1 Silk 181(8 amounted to 10,727,559 halesi which sold for $180,770,282, an in crease of $12,750,000 compared with the return from the crop of the pre ceding year. An interesting feature of the report, is the consumption of cotton in this countrry. It shhows that the south now used 50.12 percent of i lie total crop, while a few years ago it consumed only 23.3 per cent., agiiiiint the north’s 07.7 per cent. There is no doubt that the south has made wonderful strides in the de velopment of the cotton Industry in I tie last few years, hut, remarkable as liiim been the .expansion of cotton manufacture in that section, close observers of the trend of the affairs predict that in the near future Dixie will be ihe center fr the manufacture of the higher grades of goods, as il Is now the center for the coarse grades. Tho south has natural advantages which the north cannot overcome, elimatec conditions close proximity to the raw material and cheaper cost mf labor are factors In the manufac ture of cotton goods, which in time will force mill owners in the north to move their plants to the south or go out. of business. tint it is not only In the manufac ture of cotton goods that the south is forging ahead. It has takon front rank iu the production of iron and stool, furniture and other articles which formerly were produced only in the north. Anew era has opened f,s' the south, and this fact Is rapidly being recognized by capitalists in all sections of the country. Several dirty little flings have been made at The News lately. We have Ignored them and brushed them aside as a man would tho buzzing of a wasp. Hul we put some people on notice Hint when we do make up our mind to respond wo will do so In a manner that it will incline at least one individual to inquire the price of a railroad ticket. Letters from Women Cured by the use of Kodol are received daily. Their troubles nearly all begin with indiges tion or other stomach disorder. If the food you eat fails to give strength to your body, it is because the juices se creted by the stomach and digestive organs arc inadequate to transform the nutrient prop erties of the food into blood. That is Indigestion. The system is deprived of the amount of nourishment required to keep up the strength, and the result i3 that one or more of the delicate organs gradually grows weak, and then weaker, until finally it is diseased. Here a great mistake is made. That of treating the diseased organ. The best doctors In the land make this very mistake. Why should they ? It is so easy to see that the trouble is not there. Kcdci Cures This famous remedy puts the stomach and digestive organs in a healthy condition so that rich, red blood is sent coursing through the veins and arteries of every muscle, tissue and fiber throughout every organ of the en tire body, and by Nature’s law of health, full strength and vigor is soon restored to each. Kodol cures indigestion, dyspepsia and all stomach disorders. I have taken Kodol for nearly two months after each meal and it Is the only remedy that gave relief from the terrible pains I endured. After a time l would take it but once a day. and now. while I keep a bottle handy 1 seldom need it, as it has cured me. Mrs. J. W. Coolbaugh, Milo Center, N. Y. Kodol Digests What You Eat. The Spanish officers behaved with the desperate heroism which became the countrymen of Cortes and Santa Cruz, and never did Spanish soldier ot seaman distinguish himself more than on this tremendous day. There was no flinching, though the blood was seep streaming out of the scuppers. Priests went up and down under the hot lost fire, crucifix in hand, confessing and absolving the dying. But the engagement, from the first preserved the same character which had been seen in those which had pre ceded it. The Spaniards' courage was useless to them. Their ships could not turn or sail, their guns were crushed by the superior strength of the English artillery, they were outmatched In practical skill, and, close as the ships were to one another, they could not once succeed in fixing a grappling iro£. In an English rigging. Thus, while their own losses were terrible, they could inflict but little in return. They had endured for five hours to he torn to pieces by cannon shot, and that was sll. —Spanish Story of the Armada. Potent Pill Pleasure.
