T„e News Publishing Company do- Hires It to be distinctly understood that ail. legal advertisements must he paid for In advance. We cannot af ford to devote our space to such ad vtrtisemenls and wait on the courts 'o* the money. Tin- Ml re*"l force is fronting Now castle to a cotit of sheila. Ttic woods arc falling and the cltv ts to be congratulated. The v<nter of the slate seem to be satisfied with our two senators For the next several weeks the river front will resemble a bee hive. The return of Hit- strikers to work men’* that business will got lively again When the oiywtor factories open there will ho another source of money scattering. Sam Jones says he likes a warm time and from all accounts he is cer tainly haviug It Because Tom Bason is mad with the newspapers every one of them should slop publication. The merchant who’ gets in his fall advertising first is cure to get the creaan of the trade. We played in groat, luck with the recent storm. It did not think enough of us to pay us <n visit. It is unfortunate to say the least of it that Glynn county will have no exhibit at the state fair Sam Jones denounced tho postmas ter of Cartcrsvillo and the postmas ter pounced Reverend Sura. The people will have to wait just 24 hours now to read the official re port of the meetings of council. There is really no excuse for va granoy. Any man who really wants to work can find something to do. The Georgia industrial commission has punted notices at all the cotton mills in the state calling attention to the new vagrancy law. Mayor Cromtt is always thinking about the people. Of course it was the mayor who introduced the rose lutiou for the purchase of a mower Tire News will manage to keep that whipping at the state farm be fore the people of this community un til election time (ami's and we hope the other Georgia newspaers will do tho same in their respective local ities. . Nothvvithstanding the fact that tlie publishing of the oouncal proceed ings moniHimos hxeonvienieinoes the News, we are always willing to use an extra! effort lie Mease tliie public and other officers should do the same thing. The News is sorry that council saw lit pass the resolution allowing the clerk lint it the day alter the meet iiiys of that laxly to prepare his of ficial minutes. The people will now lie compelled to guess at what the city ty.he.rs do until the next day This has never 1 **en done since tie I Incorporation of the city and we think a mistake lias been made In the meantime The News will continue to print the happenings at the council even if it has to send a reporter to every session ami print the sa#ne mat ter twice. A public official should be willing to stand a little ineonveu ieuce for the benefit of the peoJe. NEW TOWN DEBATING SOCIETY AND THE MEN'S C£tWr”?“ The News has watched with a great deal of interest and satisfaction the prolSres of thebe two organizations arid we are more than delighted •at the good work ! both are doing. The" first named was organized a few months ago and Its success has been wonderful. The amount, of ben eflt to the public done by thi# drfetm- Ir.ation cannot he easily calculated hut suffice to say that It has been hi, educational institution of tlte very highest order and Iritis fair to contin ue the good work. The Men’s c)ub, a somewhat .sirnil tar organization, is a much younger club but since its initial meeting if 'has been more successful than tlio UHJt ardent members anticipated anti has made great strides in the direc tion of the purpose for which it. watt organized. V These are two organizations that deserve the the cooperation and as sistance of every citizen. Wo wish there oonild be clubs of the kind In every section of the city. V THE SAM JONES FIGHT. We regretted very much yesterday to road that Sam Jones had been a participant in a street fight ait Car tersville, bis home town. We are frank to admit that we do not like Mr. .Tones' style of preaching and we venture the assertion that, any paper which would use the same language which Mr. Jones does would hr-, not only debarred from the homes of the better-class, but would lie re futwsl the molt privilhgels accorded to publications. In other words the postal authorities would regard it as “obseno matter.” He fought with the postmaster of Hartersville. In a sermon lie is said to have used these words: Walter Ackerman is a low down lousy hound and I would rather have the blackest negro in CartersvHlc postmaster than him.” These are but mild statements to some inside by Mr. Jones and that solme day lie would lie called to ac count was expected by those who have heard him. We do not go to the homses of God t*i hear our l'ellotwiman abused and slandered. Neither do we go lo hear language which brings a blush lo I lie cheek. We go lo hear the word ’it God. The stock in trade of the Reverend Bam Jones is his sensationalism and speetaeularism and while there are many who like this Kind of preach ing the majority are against it and in tills majority are the better clans. Mr Jones, from a monetary stand point, ds a success, and thosewho preach lor the money there is in it are rapidly “catching on" and following his example. There was no flinching, though the blood was seen streaming out of the scuppers, l'rierts went up and down under the hottest fire, crucifix lu hand, confessing and absolving the dying. But tiie engagement from the first preserved the same character which liad been seen in those which had pre ceded it. The Spaniards’ courage was useless to them. Their ships could not turn or sail, their guns were crushed by the superior strength of the English artillery, they were outmatched in practical skill, and, close ns the ships were to one another, they could not once succeed In fixing a grappling In/. in tin English rigging.
