The Convict’s Daughter.
One of the most entertaining and
finely mounted plays of the season will
be seen at the Grand shortly. It is a
superb offering, and credit is due to
Managers Fleming & Waff for secur
ing this excellent production. “The
Convict’s Daughter” is possessed of a
r//i f £SCAPE. /
well defined plot, a story interestingly
and effectively told. The cast is all
that could l>e desired, and all are well
adapted to their respective parts. The
scenic effects are good, and the prison
scene in Act Four particularly thrill
ing. They must lx; seen to he fully
appreciated, and those who fail to see
them will certainly do themselves an
injustice.
A perfect and complete metropolitan
production lias been given the new
musical comedy, “When Reuben
Comes to Town,” by Manager John T.
Halt. The piece, which is the work of
Herman Perlet, wiil be seen in this
city at t he Grand next Monday night.
The costumes are from designs by
the famous artist, Archie Gunn, and
said to he of striking novelty. The
scenery is by I’hysioc, and is a line ex
ample of that clever artist’s best style.
The company lias been carefully se
lected and rehearsed under the per
sonal direction of the authors, and is
made up of some of the best and most
favorably known comedians and come
diennes known to t he musical stage.
Two of the most successful plays
from the pen of Charles Hoyt will be
seen at th© Grand this season; “A
Stranger in New York" and “A Trip
to Chinatown.” with their bright sa
tire keetn dialogue, amusing situa
tioma, , clever dancee and catchy mu
sic.
Most of the success of those popu
lar play Is due to the fact that they
are written in Mr. Hoyt’s happiest
vicn and have more real snap than
any of the other plays of this lam
oua writer of farce comedies. The
action is so rapid and the ludicrous
situations l|u||low each |i|thor \vjith
such rapidy that there is not a dull
monment. ,
Each play has been provided with
a complete scenic outfit and an entn
chi mge of music, songs, dances am.
specialties.
These companies are said to be
clever ones and bc(th contain sov
eral well known comedians.
