We cannot af ford to devote our space to such ad vcrtlsements and wait, on the courts 'o* the money. The State Pair promises to he a hummer. Isn’t It about time for Bryan to have another spasm? We are delighted at the fact, that Iho heard of trade Is soon to hogln their meetings again. Wlmt we want Inst now In Bruns wick Is less pollllcos and hotter slreelß and sidewalks. Wo must get together and try for some mn nu fag'll trine rmlorpnl .cs It will make Brunswick a great city. Mrs. Fish says there was no real monkeys at ITnrry T-ohers Hall. Well It. was not ncooiy.ary. for Harry was there himself. The present members of the floor gla prison commission have min great ooivsnlntion. mi 1( , people will tint soon fongcl them. 'The feathers on t* woman’s hat cans ed w serious fire'in T/onlsvlllc the other day. It Is not slated whether or mot the lady had veil hair. Tho depart ment of public works should attend to that crossing Just op posite the court linn's© square. It, should lie paved at once. We see no real pod reason why the negroes of Brunswick should he dis franchised an 1 denied the ronstltii- Uonal right of voting. THE WHITE PRIMARY QUESTION. A meeting of the white tax payers of the city of Brunswick has been call 'd for Thursday night to consider the nomination of four alderman on tho white primary system. Without regard too- the origin of this move cund caring not where it eman ated, we would liho to ask why is it necessary in Brunswick ? Here we have a population of colored citizens, who from tho st midpoint of good citizenship, will measure up with those of any city iu tho south. Those among them who register and veto are taxpayers, men who are interested in the material growth and prosperity of the city, property owners who have a deep interest tn the well being of the community. The state of Georgia has not found It necessary to enact any disfranchise ment laws agonist the negro, why should we of Brunswick take it up mid tli usdeprive this class the privi lege* he is Justly entitled to exercise? We are not threatened with negro (haulnancy here in Brunswick. There is not a negro in any otlieial position, however remote in the entire county. There is not and lias never been any lines of demarcation as between democrat anil republican in our local anairs, and we have on more than on*' occasion'elected republicans to the ma.voralitv and to places on the alder loaujc board as well as to official pos ition in the ouninty. With those conditions we cannot for the life of us see why they should he changed. We should encourage the negro and educate him as to the du ties of ciUzeushif), rather than laho a right, which under all the laws of the land is ins,and thus engender had feeling, which at this time certainly does not exist to any great extent in this community. If it could he made..to appear that the negro was engaged In a move to dominate the affairs of this city, wo would l*e amen- the first to rai o our voice in defense any movement to check and keep him in his place, such Is not the case and we really see no good reason, for departing from custom that has been In vogue in this city for at least a quarter of a century. Those who favor the white prlmarv assert, that It will sto-i vote buying If the custom of vote buying really ex ifttp in Brunswick, end It certainly should not, it Is very don! (fill if n white primary, will sto-, it nil together Ro, aa we ay, we are content to let the negro have that right that, the constltlll ion of the T'roiforl Rfatrr qr r*or<l" to n. r, 'i ’uL* tt d-’c- i necessary to disfranchise him, if ft ever does, if should he in the hall", of the notional congress. That New Orion,a man that suicid ed Saturday because he,had two wives did a sensible ihing. One sometimes drives n man to the same end. The Macon News has found out that sham reformers are nuisancer to any community. Wc of Brunswick have had good reason lo find that out long ago. The Tillman trial drags on and every effort, is being made tsi keep the mal es tv of the law in the hands of the politicians In South flarolina and place a premium on murder In that state. While the city fathers were doling work on the upper end of Newcastle they might as well have carried the ImiiTovomonfs down to the park. The people down that way are also tax payers. Will Superintendent Ballard of the public schools kindly tell tvs why all of the Brunswick teachers, or a great majority of them, have been relegated and their places fired by n a vomers “i Wc do not on.ect to the coming of the young ladles, lull we would like to know why the home girls have been displaced.
