Re News Publishing Company de sires It to be distinctly understood that all legal advertisements must be paid for In advance. We cannot af ford to devote our space to such ad vertisements and wait on tbe courts the money. | NOTICE. E. II Joneg has boon employed by the News Publishing Company and is authorized to solicit and collect sub pi: riptii It was holt in New York last night and we will bet, on it. In all events, Hugh McLaughlin, of Brooklyn, has shown that he is a po litical traitor ami turncoat. Pope Plus is as good a fire fighter ns he is a soul saver. He is one of the greatest men In the world. What has become of old Jamosky Jones? Wo are glad at least that he did no forecasting on yesterday's general results. Congress meets next Monday and the average country editor will have a bunch of fus reading the Congression al Record. During the coining municipal cam paign the fallacy and the insincerity of those wlio are howling for a wliile primary will lie thoroughly shown up. Wic regret that clever Jim Hitt is to leave the Atlanta News on account of ill health. He is a splendid writei and the Georgia press has lust a val uable member. The white primary idea, as viewed as a move lor harmony, when dou frouted with the cold fact in the ease will catch hut few sympathizers, save, of course, those who are next’ to the political cutup in the matter. That fellow iu Washington the other day who lost his mind and imagined that he was up in an air ship, reminds one of Hie goo goo politlcans in this city. Now just wait until that an bliip strikes a snag. THE FJRST DOSE. The people of the city of llruns wick were yesterday treated with an other very tine dose of that harmony soother, that delicious ozone that ser ves to make the pool do fall into each other’s sums and fairly weep for Joy because they love each other so ten derly. v jt wonder that wo all dos t form a mutual admiration society at once, rent a great big amphitheater and have meetings "to love car’ll other” once or twice a day. Unit to be serious. Wien the city council met yesterday afternoon anil elected a blitter partisan, a man who bus always been with the flood Gov ernment club, to art in the rapacity of city registrar, knowing too, that judge Parker had appointed one mem ber of the board that was a partisan, it went the full limit of its small and miserable partisanship and displayed a narrowness Unit a reasonable and justice loving people will crush at the polls next month. Talk of harmony. Why the fairest man In the world would be wrought up to bitter i v-ss by such methods as these. Why did not this “harmony loving’’ c-.t> council name a man who had not been in politics? who had not gone on record as a partisan? who was in no wise connected with the ennui oiling influences of the political party now in power? Why? We will tell you why—because they wero atraid of the ptriplc. They know tbe men who, under the law, were entitled tot it, have been de nied the right of registration and they did not think it safe to let. impartial men pass upon the constitutionally given right, of freemen, olaek and white, to cast their votes. We denounce the act as being pol ities of the dirtiest stripe; we de nounce it as being ring rule of the vilest character and w< call upon the good people of this city, who believe in justice and fair play, to remember this iniatial at t of thie partisan coun cil when they go te the [mils next month. Some would-be politic-ami of the goo goo stripe, have an {insatiable appe tit.- for public office and it seems are not content with one or two or three positions. Strange isnt it? especial ly as is was a cardinal feature of the goo goo platform that one man should hold lint, one position at a time. Memory, or the lack of It, however, os a great thing with the average goo goo political! in Brunswick. They have overlooked the fact that in 181*8 ssme of tiie men now prominent in the party, and even holding office in it refused to go into a white primary in. the county, even after the organ ized democracy, and not a crowd of lioliticans had called it. Not Over-Wise. There Is an old allegorical picture fa gir l scared ; t ’v- --:a : hoppei but in the act oi hoodies ly treading on a snake.
