SAVANNAH PRESBYTERY IN
SESSION AT ST. MARY’S
Synod Will Meet in This City Next
Tuesday.
The Savannah Presbytery began Its
fall session at the Presbyterian church
in St. Mary’s last night. Routine bus
iness will occupy the greater part ot
the session and little of general in
terest is expected to transpire.
The Presbytery is composed of the
pastor land <mr ruling elder from
each church in the district..
Tonight a special sermon before the
Presbytery will lie preached by Dr. |
Fair, of Savannah. The address on
missions and mission work, which is
to he delivered Thursday afternoon,
has also been given, to the Savannah
divine.
Ow* of tlie* matters beyond the rail
t in,, order which will come before
rhe session is the examination of a
young man who lias applied for a
license to preach. The examination
for a p-stor’s license is the most rigid
of iln y ciiureh and considerable inter
est is always taken 1 in such events.
'[lie fall session meets somewhat
earlier Ilian usual this year. The
change of the date is owing to the
meeting ot the synod in this city on
Tuesday next. Ify making two ses
sions follow each other so closely
clergymen from a distance can attend
both during the one trip.
Plenty o f Quail.
Quail are now on the market and
there seems to lie plenty in the near
by woods. Any number of sportsmen
have been out during the past few
days and they have all reported good
luck and tiuvo bagged many of the
sweet birds.

The servant problem seems to be
vexing the soul of the women of Bruns
wick even ruble than usual nowa
days. There is nothing more calcu
lated t.o disturb the equanimity of the
average woman and to destroy the
comfort n.md happiness of the home
than this matter of domestic service.
II is assuming alarming proportions
and -some step will soon have to be
taken toward remedying the evil or
adjusting the conditions. A society
in New York called the German House
wives Society, a benevolent organi
zation, lias endeavored to ameliorate
Ly offering a prise of ten dollars in
gold to every maid servant who re
mains at her post faithfully for two
years. There were 23 winners of this
prize, it) of whom were German girls.
The ladies of Brunswick should form
some such society as a reward contin
ued service in one family. The mat
ter of requiring reference and skilled
service should he hade more promi
nent and on the other hand adequate
wages and a measure of considera
tion: for the employe will help to bring
about a better adjustment of these
difficulti*s and tend to alleviate all
the present conditions of which there
is so much complaint.
