There is no case in the United mates where a city council passed tut ordinance to keep a moyr from iiani tua a janitor. But this city council iHI owes Is a precedent breaker. THE SECOND CHAPTER. Having shown in the previous chap ter: ' **••* First—That the white primary was not anew idea but an old*ono fuel available but not asked for by the high minded apostles of purification the c’.ood Government club, at any time for years trust. Second —That it was not brought out bv that orgaui/atien until it discovered that it no longer controlled the negro vote and could not hope to recapture it. \Ve come now to these high priests in the Good Government temple of pur ity and reform and the public gen erally and invite them to impure into the source from whence the advocacy of tlio new idea comes. Tin first agitation of the idea, so far as we know, vas in flic form of a request lor the very thing the members of the Good Government club had pro fessed to dispise— a mass meeting, and in the hands of a notable and promi nent member ot that club, a gentle man whom we personally respect and esteem, and being presented to the people with the request that they sign the call for the meeting- Many did sign Including the officers and mem bers ot the Good Government club al most to a man. The meeting was held and the primary was ordered in order to purify elections, get rid of vote buy ing and loea! political strife and unite our people in one harmonious body to labor for the material advancement of Brunswick. The opponents of tbe white" primary, by arrangraent previously made, met a committee of seven members ot the Good Government club, six of them of fice holders and one who had, at least, been very seriously considered for the .office of mayor last year, and agreed upon a ticket for places on the aider manic board composed of men beyond the slightest criticism. Thus the oc casion for a white primary, or, indeed, i primary of any kind, ceased to ex ist. There was harmony on both sides. The executive committee of the Cit izens club met and very promptly ratified the ticket. Ail agreed that perfect peace had come. There would bo no 'bitter contest, no vote buying, no discord and bitterness. Nothing to do but go through the form of an election and induct into office four good, patriotic citizens acceptable to the whole people of the city oi Bruns wick. This agreement failod. Why did it? Here endeth the second chapter. ■ JOY LOST BY WAITING.
