COTTON SEED OIL.
If cotton in king then cotton seed
oil is queen, and her majesty is of
[ar greater importance in the cotton
household than is generally supposed.
Mure than $100,000,000 is Uerlv.od
annually from cotton seed and itt
products. This fact in more aston
ishing when wo consider tile fact that
up to ill teen years ago the seed was
used simply us (erlili/.er or ju.it about
thrown away. And yet only about 54
per cent of the seed produced in thu
country is being ulnlixud because of
the lack of mills. It is estimated that
a hundred new mills are being elect
ed every year in the cut uni growing
states, which will increase the out
put of cotton seed oil at the rate ol
JOO.UOO barrels auuually.
Colton seed oil is not Hie disagree
able subject most jmmplo imagine,
’j’ljg good oil is odorless and makes
excellent lard, good butter, tine oi
ive oil, od- soap. Oil made from pour
soap has quite a bad odor but this
is removed by refilling. The oil loses
l) per cent of volume by this pro
ves? Our hi mo consumption of cot
ton seed oil is about 150.0UU barrels
in butter, aud 300,000 barrels for soap.
We export 80,000 barrels or cotton
seed oil every year. Germany ai.d
Italy each use about 100,000 barrels
of cur oil for various purposes while
300,000 barrels go to England
South America and Africa.
It will be seen that the cotton seed
oil cuts an important ligure in the
cotton business. The cotton planters
of early days never dreamed there
wore fortunes in the great quantities
of cotton seed they allowed to go to
waste. It remained fox more practical
dependants to discover the lull utility
of tile cotton plant and to fully dem
onstrate tha fact that it is Ute most
useful and pro lira bio plant that we
grow,

From whence does i t come?
wht.se hands do we first find the

Indeed there is no real cause for
