The stove man and the wood deal ers are noiwi smiling at the Ice man. When Roosevelt spoke in Lincoln’s pew wonder what the spirits did? Minority leader Williams seems to ■he spiking Speaker Cannon's gun. Carrie Nations seems to be the real thing with the Washington police. Cotton is selling at eleven seventy but the Glynn county tanner is still content with his pork and beans. Nothing has boon sent out from Worthington yet about Teddy receiving a 100-polund Thanksgiving turkey. General Wood must have had a nat ural penchant for receiving presents, ills next one will be in the Bliupe or retirement. The Atlantic Coast Line announces that It will shortly improve the sched ule in and out of lJrimswick. There is certainly room for improvement. Before the present political cam paign is over a number of iieoplo will ho looking for tiiat "mathematical lobe mid a whole lot of the "chaff me” act will be done. An old maid in New England has bcquethed $1,000,000 education. Sensible woman. Men who will allow a woman with $1,000,000 to live and die an old inaid certainly need edu cation. Tho erection of a monument in At lanta to the memory uf President Mc- Kinley has been abandoned, as only SI.:SOU of the necessary $7,000 could be raised, and the Jacksonville Metrop olis remarks that the dead are soon forgotten. If all tlio expositions are to be help ed by congreas. where will the river and harbor bill come in! Already the St. Louis, the Oregon, Lewis and Clark, and the Jamestown, Ya., ex positions are at the door asking for We appropriations. The citv of Columbus has been tom ponarily enjoined freon talcing any fur ther steps toward the issuance of a sale of bonds for the construction of anew water works system by an or der handed '.own by Judge Newman Thursday in the ease of the Merchant, ile Trust and Deposit Com pany. act ing as trustees for the bondholders of the Columbus Waterworks Com pany, against the city of Coluuibus. IMMENSE WEALTH. | Asa trust the Standard Oil Com pany has no equal in the world. Mon day the last divident for the December quarter was increased $2 per share. The actual amount of the dividend in sl2 a share and it compares with $lO a share a year ago. With Monday’s dividend the full disburse of the Standard Oil Company for 1903 is authorized. It amounts to 41 per cent. This means $44,000,000 to the ,stockholders of the concern as the capital stock is $100,000,000. In JSO2 the dividend was 45 per cent, the two previous years it was 48 per cent and varied from 30 to 33 per cent between 1890 and 1900, while from 1891 to 1895 it was 12 per cent. Standard Oil shriek recently has risen from 015 to 090. Then it went off to 045, and Monday wars quoted at CGo bid, a rise of fifteen points from Saturday. It is said that the Rockefellers do not know what to do with all their money, and they are accused of buying into nearly every property of impor tance in the United States. The Penn sylvania railroad, it lias been said, is now under authority, and certain al leged authorities * cheerfully place tho United States Steel Corporation and the New York Central also under Rockefeller control. When a man don't know what to do with his money someone should tell him of the distress of thousands for the necessaries of life. Of the shiver ing women and children of today for the want, of fuel to give them warmth, of the thousands of little motherless and fatherless children being cared for by the hand of charity, and still not enough is realized to make them comfortable. Not one cent of this im mense fortune can he taken out of this world by its possessors, and why not make others happy and comfortable with it?
