TALKS OF AFRICA. Edward Fuller, one of the negroes who returned a few days ago from Africa, gives out some interesting facts about that country, and in an interview with a newpaper in pcilla he says: “Monrovie is about one hundred years, is aliout as large as Abbeville i was Before the railroad was built to U , I "There are noi wagons, buggies oi j horses. Only a few cows. Hogs arC| wild and have to be hunted in the swanmps like rabbits. Corn has to ho oaten in the roasting-ear state be cause as soon as it is dry the bugs devour it. “Lumber, and other building mater ial has to be brought from England. The natives live in wretched huts, the timbers of which are eaten up every two or three years by hugs. “Twenty-four cents is a days wages but there is very little work to do. Flour is sls a barrel, bacon 25 cents a pound 'and calico 25 cents a yard, and everything else is proportionately high. “Marriage license cost $5 each, but as ai sort of offset the purchaser is al lowed to marry five wives. Head men or chief of tribes can have as many wives as they think they can control, and some of them have as many as sixty. “The natives are not very choice as to diet, monkeys, snakes, Hazards and other choice meats being devour ed by them witli evident relish. Back from tlie port towns they make a virtue of necessity .alul eschew cloth ing altogether. They go armed each with a long knife, and flee from a man with a gun. The main products of the country are coffee, rice, corn, Insects and jun gle fevers. "The winters are fully as warm as It is here In August. "Land sells for 25 cents an arce, and is fertile but too far from Ocilla to be worth anything, for agricultural purposes. “In brief, Africa is a country rich in all that is disagreeable and dan- activity ami life it- BANKRUPTCY NOTICE.
