This is a very impor tant nintter and should receive the support of the farming interests of the three counties of the district, Glynn, Camden and Charlton. Garlands of richest fragrance, sor rowing hearts and a funeral cortege noted for its numbers, marked the fun eral of l)r. Hugh llurford, which oc curred at two o'clock, yesterday af iernoulu. The people of Brunswick seemed to realize that Providence had gathered Into its Heavenly gar ner a truly good man. Hundreds and hundreds who had known and loved the dlstlnguiseh dead were iu attendance and the sorrow of the people at large was a handsome tribute to the memory of the dead doctor. The lloral offering was magnificent, and in mute fashion attested to the love and esteem In which the deceased was held by the people of this city HON. HARVIE JORDAN'S ADDRESS. The addresss of Hon. llarvie Jordan at the city hall last night was a very interesting one and was closely followed by Hiose present. Mr. Jor dan is a practical farmer and lie gave those in this section of the state a number of valuable points oti the ques tion in general. There is no more important matter now before the people of the state than is the one of farming and ii is a great pity that every farmer in the fourth senatorial district could not have heard the very able discourse delivered last night. He left at' 9 o'clock for Valdosta, blit before doing so arranged for some special work to be done in this and the other two counties in the district. Glynn county is, of all the other counties in the state in need of on light,-nmont along agricultural and farming lines and it is to be hotted that thoee of our people who are engaged and interested in these avocations will take to the institution and encourage It. IT HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED. Th election of Tuesday for four members of the city council has in a number of ways established some new precedents in the local political situa tion here in Brunswick. In the first place it has shown be yond question that the colored vote, with a very few exceptions is a pur chasable commodity, and that that element has been the means of mak ing campaigns in this city very expen sive ones. In the fight just closed the negro was threaten3(l with disfran- j chisement and in the very face of that fact he inarched up to the polls on Tuesday and like so many sheep were bought and made to vote accordingly, Now we have always been wedded to the idea that the nogro should be allowed the right of suffrage, as surely and as honestly as is accorded liis white brother —we were mistaken — he has not the proper conception of the sacredness of the ballot. It is like a vard of lace or a pound of bacon with him and it goes to the highest and best bidder. For this as well as for other reasons we want to say here and now that w f e are in favor of the white primary in the future. It has solved a proposition that has in the past baffied us. It has served a good purpose and we are willing to embrace it as the best and only way to bring the people of the city together in a common cause.,„We were not in sympathy with the ad vocates of the primary in the recent election for reasons, explained in these columns time and time again. We were wrong and we are persuaded that it is better to say so here and now and put ourselves on the side of the white primary in the future. Experience always w r as and always will be the very prince <f teachers. It has taught ua a lesson and we hope to profit thereby in the future. Lets got together and work as a man for the material advancement of this the gem port of the South Atlantic. Lets wipe out partisanship and for get. Wo can do it and we should. Teddy and Mark seem to he hard to get together. And alter all Charleston it seems, will not have to accept Crum. Atlanta nosw lias warm cars when ■ver Mayor Howell lias cold feet., If a white primary will settle the po litical differences in this community, then give it. to us by all means. 11 ia tu uO ii vlmi ihut tilt; present city administration will keep up its work obi the streeets. GoojJyworlt lias been dote and it should be continued. It is to be hoped that they can keep Bryan in Europe until after ttie coining presidential election. Democracy may then have a chance.
