The football season is now a tiling of the past, and In accordance with the time-honored custom wo beg to sugges l the following talent for an all-star football team: Center rush. Andrew Carnegie. His long experience In the Iron and ateel business has made him unyield ing, end owing to the vost number of books he has given away he looks mighty good on paper. Right guarde, Russel Sage. This gentlemen guards everything that comes within his grasp in such a con sistent, strenuous manner that is the only logical candidate. Left guard, Het. Green. Second only to Russell on the guarding prop oaltlou. Right tackle, John D. Rockefeller, who has tackled everything in the country with marked success. Left tackle, J. Plerpont Morgan. Anything that gets by John D. is pie for him. Right end, Charles M. Schwab. He has clearly proven, although he start ed out In life with a beggarly salary of one million dollars per year, that a man is certain to come to a right end Left end, William Jennings Bryan. Nobody will deny Mr. Brvau this hon or. which he earned In two hard presi dential campaignss. Quarterback, Nelson A. Miles. He is a 000 l brainy general, an.', also covers a good deal of ground at times, as, for Instance, cm the occasion of his recent ride. He is strong on inter ference. Right halfhack, Barney Oldfield. Owing to hie great speed, he stands alone as a claimant for this position halfback, Lou Dillon. Fullback, Colonel Henry Watterson. Noted for the fierceness with which he bucks the color line and the smart set, and splendid on the offensive j"’—-Mikes Sentinel. A TOAST TO THE FUTURE. ! Now that the white people of this city are about to get together on po litical lines it might he a good idea to point out some of the work that is before us in the next few years. in the first place we want to encour age the coming of small factories and industries generally that will give em ployment to the idle. We should see to it that the advantages of Brunswick, as a seaport and as the healthiest spot on all the South Atlantic, is j property placed before the capatalists of the east and the west, who, are at • all times seeking invest ments in the south. We should revive that o-ld spirit of civic prido that was in ilie ascendency - iiere at one time, hut is now lost in , the maze of internal discord that has prevailed for a long time. We should torget the bitterness and the wrangles of the past and set our ! ambitions on a loftier plane of action tor the future. The matter of fac tionalism should be relegated to the last seat in the verv last column of things forgot, and we should all join In a common cause—the material ad vancement of the best interest of the port of Brunswick and her people both individually and collectively. There is no more laudable ambition, no task more perfect, in its conception than is tho one of aiding the master planner in carrying out his decrees. Brunswick was intended to be the greatest, seaport in the south, whether her forefathers saw the true situation or not, it Is a fact that they were cor rect when they agreed that nature had smiled om the old peninsular, and had given to her the choicest gifts in her keeping. Therefore II is our duty to see to it that the plans of the wise men of the long ago are carried out to tho let ter. The opportunity is a great, one; one that, involves the very character of our people. What will we do with the trust (for indeed it is a trust.) Will we contribute our abilities and our ener gies to Its betterment or will we be laggards In the great industrial march? For our part, we say lets get to gether in a common cause and push Brunswick into the van guard of sea ports. The scene Is engaging and the occasion i uu|uo!viio. Tilts iccuiua of shipping for the last year have been phonominal; we have broken records In the tie business; we have smashed Into a cocked hat previous figures in the lumber traffic, and we have stead ily forged to the front in the ship ping commerce generally. Is Lliis not. an incentive? Wo think it is and we invite the hearty co-operation of the people of Brunswick generally to the end that at last Brunswick may occupy that po sitiou in the commercial world, for which nature has g n splendidly fash ioned her. The fact of the matter is—lets work tor Brunswick. Lets get to work tor Brunswick. That's the thing. Atlanta Is all right any way, cold street cars or warm ones. A few small industries will do mere for a town than a million politicians. Wo hope that the council committee will extend that better street down to Hanover park. From all imlieaUosn the Riflemen’s fair was a great success, both financial ly and otherwise. General Wood will find out in the end that accepting presents is a had proposition even in Cuba. It is to be hoped that ihe hoard of trade will co-operate with the Farmers Instntute in the work now done here in this district. In West Virginia, in the opinion of the Savannah Morning News, correct steps have tree taken for the purpose of crystalling democratic sentiment and building for a democratic vic tory at the polls next year, A big Gorman club will soon be organized iu Wheeling, and similar clubs are to be organized in all parts of the state. Special Notice. Neither the master, owner or agents of the British S. S.“Greatham" will be responsible for any debts contract ed by the crew of said stoamer. F. M D. Straehan & Cos., Agents.
