Mr. Dodge is the head of the firm of Hilton- Dodge Lumber Cos., who operate large mills at St. Simon and other points in South Georgia: "Six months in the common jail of Bibb county and a fine equal to the value of the timber cut and the costs of the suit, was the sentence passed yesterday morning by Judge Speer of the United States court upon A. L. Hulety defendant in the contempt proceedings briought. by Norman W. Dodge. Upon the motion for clemency made by the counsel for Mr. Dodge, the court ordered that the sentence should be suspended after the prisoner had served one month in jail and paid the fine and tests. In his petition to the court alleging contempt, Mr. Dodge claimed that Hu lett had entered upon his land in south Georgia and cut and carried away tim ber, which action was in violation of a former decree of the court confirming the title of the plaintiff to the prop erty. The defendant claimed that he cut onl” about sixty trees. The hearing of the case was begun on last Saturday. It has attracted considerable attention, oiwing to the fact that it relates to one of the most famous litigations ever aired in the courts of Georgia and in the settle ment of which intense feeling was in volved, resulting in bloodshed.
