We cannot afford te devote our space to such adver tisements and wait on the courts for the money. The Macon Nows continues to im prove and is one of the best afternoon papers In the south. Well, the carnival people have gone at last, and don't you know they will have a good word to speak for Bruns wick? 4*-. v Brunswick is getting on a regular hustle Just now and the average mer chant has Joined in the smile of the coal man. •L 'iLA. . The criminals of Glynn county are now having their Christmas presents The courts have adjourned fur the holidays. lidfc'jjj Secretary Root is rather slow in his praise of General Wood, when every other war agency Is calling far his court martial. Venezuela will never turn her buL. no us. She cannot forget what Gil Ver Cleveland did for her when he was in the White House. The esteemtd Savannah Morning News says: “The ou.irol: is r.ow gloomy In the far east And so It is in the far south. Sunday's issue of the Atlanta Con stitution was a reach. A little unsea sonable for that comparison, but it is just as bright and as rosy. A New England editor is howling against Thanksgiving uay. Strange .when !i* lives so close ta Y*! and Har yard. What would the center rush and the halfbacks do then? Senator Pettus, of Alabama, has come very near to the meat in the Pan ama situation when he says "God grant that strength will do away with honor.” A The unpleasant part of the holiday season is now turning up as usual, and our exchanges are teeming with crime And vice all committed in the name of the most sacred da* in the cal endar ©# religion. A MORAL TO MERCHANTS, f This season holiday business has demonstrated one fact that should serve to he a good lesson to the mer chants of this city. Advertising pays in Brunswick as well as It does in every civilized spot on earth. Thus far the ante-Christmas bus iness has been unusually large and es pecialy so with those of our mer chants who have l*>en progressive enough to plant a good substantial ad. i in the News. In these days of the mad commer cial contests for increased business, the purchaser and the consumer is rapidly learning to appreciate the en ergy of the merchant who is progress ive enough to come to them, through the proper medium and tell what you have to sell. One weil knetwn Newcasttle street merchant struck the key note of the j situation yesterday In placing an or- | der for space in these columns. He j said: “Our business shows a mostj satisfying increase over that of last year and for this early in the holiday season the amount of business has really been surprising. I am frank enough to say to you that I attribute the fact to having spent more money In printers Ink than I ever have before during the holidays.” As stated above the people of this city are learning to watch the news papers for advertising and the man who Is always represented there has a big advantago against the one who never Is. The holidays are now just only com menced and It is not too late to sand in your copy for increased space and thus reap the harvest of the Invest ment. The postmen are now asking "how would you like to ho John.” Wonder who will ho present at Roosevelt's Christmas dinner. The Czar Is playing with a danger ous toy when he juggles with the Jap. Our friend Jim Nevin up in Rome Tribune sparkle right brightly." The fellow that Is vt “outs” wilh his girl just at this time is playing in rather good luck. The Americas Times-Recorder is now coming to us In eight pages. We congratulate the management. ,. r % The Tribune and the Herald in Tam pa are hard at each other again. Wind it up before Christmas, hoys. All our merchants report a good Christmas business, which is the very best sign that our city i3 prosper ous. Brunswick should not embrace the idea of provincialism. If we hope to grow and become a great city we must learn that what is good tor Un goose is good for the gander. The courts are having lots of trou ble lln-si- days deciding whether or not condemned murderers are sane or insane, it is a strange fact that this question is never brought up un til some very heinous crime has been committed. Hon. Dudley ft. Hughes, Hon. V. Washington and Hon. Glascock Bar rett, who aro touring the state in the interest of a Georgia building at the ■tSt. Louis exposition, are In Brunswick today and will address our citizens at the city hall at 11 o’clock this morn ing. This is a very important mat ter and it Is hoped that a large num ber of our people will be present. Brunswick has had all kinds of con ditions of an obverse nature to bailie with in the past, but it seems to be the prevailing idea among the business men of the etiy—the meu of affairs, that we are in a better position today from all points of view than has ever been the case. Indeed we stand on the threshold of anew year with many foundations cu which we can build our hopes and with innumerable rea sons to believo that they will bo fully and thoroughly realized. Business is in better shape than in many years, there is ample room here lor the la borer, the banks report good deposits and on which the situation is en couraging. We return thanks to Senator Clay Georgia's able junior representative in the upper house of congress for a copy of publication of the United States Naval Observatory. ~^^^4,.
