ANNOUNCEMENT. iu order that the employes of the several departments of the News, in common with all humanity, may enjoy these happy yule-times there will he no paper issued fro rnthis ollico tomor row morn Lug. The News indulges the hope that its various patrons 'and the public generally will appreciate its latitude in giving faithful aud hard worked employees a relief from the exacting and onerous duties connected with morning newspaper work. We wish all of our readers a very, very happy Christmas and wish for them all an abuudauco of success in the hew year on whose threshold we ate now standig. Merry Christmas. The papers tomorrow will bo full of Christmas accidents. And pepa paid for all tho pres ents and receved none. The mew year seems to have many good things in store for Brunswick. Tho fict that nearly every mer chant in Brunswick has reported the best Christmas in years is a good sign that our city is prosperous. The Albany Herald thinks that a man who steals of gets into other Kind of trouble, and then commits suicide to get out of it, is the worst sort. \ •ita.M The Atlantic Coast Line gave Bruns wick her Christmas present several weeks ago, when the road discontin ued running freight cars with the pat songer trams. jV. 'TIS CHRISTMAS DAY. The great cycle of time revolving down Its endless avonue brings us omce again to this the most sacred period in the religious calander, Christ mas day. It is meet ajid proper that the day should be of all days observed in all Christendom and observed In a differ ent fashion from what is usually the case, for the life of us we never could understand why it should be a day for loud acclaim with fireworks and brawls, yith noise and with display. [ It is distinctly a day for the church. | a day for glad tidings, for music, for ! sweet song and not for loud cannonad | ing and debaucheries lor the wine cup and for tawdry ness. There certainly | 'can be notbfcig in the birth of the sav i jior to warrant this class of celebri tlon. To our minds, all the world should gather themselves together on this day and do reverence to the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, that we should pause for this onlKday and devoted exclusively to the memory of a great event at Bethlehem when the Saviour, from his lowly manger was given into the world. So let us hope that we in Bruns wick may cateh the true inspiration of ths natal day of Him who gave to us the world and all that is in 1t wh ocroated In TTIs own imago man and all humanity, and, later, blessed the entire world with His munificent teachings. Let. us turn aside today from the constant, ever ceasing march of prog ress and commerciiality and commcm oraltc, in sacred fashion, this, the holiest of all holy days. We have manifold things to be thankful for, a mutiplicity of reasons why we should resign ourselves fdr this one day perfectly and completely In His Ser vice, Since the very hour that He first saw the light of day He has vouchsafed unto us that benison that has served to make good men and perfect women, that has cast an eth eral light over the homes in. all the world, and the effulgence of the rays have had at all times that magnificent spark of divinity kindled in His heart, handed unto mankind from His own temples of worship by His own emis saries. Indeed, it is a day for happy homes and cheerful firesides, for reunions and glad carols. We felicitate with all the world in this glad huur. Lo cally we find much cause for extending gratulations to the people of Bruns wck. The new year, now dawning, seems to us to have in store ran era of prosper.ty never before equaled and we stand at its portals firm in the belief that it will bring to each and all of us many blessings from this same divii.e fountainhead. To all of our readers aud to all ol otur friends we extend In the fullest spirit the compliments of this truly happy season. May it ho u merry, merry Christmas and a very happy new year. We hope and trust that al! the glad ness and glory of the hour will tu t be confined in mansions aud palaces, hut that it may penetrate into the homes of the'lowly and the .needy and may peace on earth and good will toward man reign supreme lor at least this one happy day.
