THE BRUNSWICK DAILY NEWS, TUESDAY, DECEMTER 29, 1901
Breuliinii the Steer*.
During an old borne week celebra
tion In n small town In New Hamp
shire there wore present a learned
Judge from a western city, a professor
from Boston and a United States sen
ator. Grave and austere of manner, as
became their age and honors, they ad
dressed each other by the titles which
belonged to their several stations. But
the” tad been schoolmates, and when
the senator told a story of school days
tbo accumulated ice of forty year*
thawed in a bund of laughter, and they
were John and Bill and Horace once
more. The Delineator repeats one of
their stories:
“Bill, (V> you remember breaking the
steers?”"laughed Horace.
“Now, that's between you and me,
Ho^aco.”
‘(No secrets here,” said John. “Out
wiih ft!”
“Y)ue summer one of Bill's steers got
! ’n the swamp and was kilted.
Bill going to miss the fun of
breaking/he steers, so the next winter
he yoke<l himself up with the one that
was left. I met them coming down
ova? the crust like Sam Hill. Bill
yelled between gasps: ‘Stop us! Stop
us! TVe're running away!’ I cornered
them la an angle of the wall. As soon
as Bill got breath enough he said, ‘Pjor
goodness’ sake, Horace, unyoke tno
other steer!’ ”
