WHO gvwraiiy uiukos new year resolutions breaks them. It was a shame lor Secretary Hay to play such Jokes on I'auaiua's diplomat ic corps. i. Booker has not yet acknowledged the receipt of an invitation to dine with Teddy on Friday. ”1903 is giving we of Brunswick a very sweet and sunny smile before takig his Anal departure. Is not the recent attitude of the ad ministration on the Panama situation a little inclined to the side step Old man Wheeler and Hobson should both have a good opportunity after Friday. Leap year, don't you know. What is pestering Ueueral W r ood is to konw what Marcus is going U> do on that confirmation question. Brunswick merchants should remem ber that the holidays are not over wlth. New Years presents must he bought. Send in the copy for that ad. Those '‘Dad" letters seem to indicate that old man "M. Quad" was a round er in good earnest.- They promise to become the most popular of his works. After all Teddy was not so strenuous in bis loud- and ringing demand for the resigation of Perry Heath and tho redundant Perry is bolding on with grim tenacity. * - - r - Fifteen cent cotton and an North Georgia is wreathed in smiles. Weil we still have hog and hominy and taters and peas la the wiregrass and are hap py too. The city council did the proper thing in making an appropriation for the Georgia building at St. Louis and we commend it for the spirit of enter prise thus displayed. AN UNTENABLE ATTITUDE. 1 Up in the city of Rome the Elks lodge, composed of the best element of busines men in the city, proposed to give a great Christmas tree for the children of the Hill city and request ed the co-operation of all the churches of the city in the very laudable work. All of the pastors, with one excep tion, responded. A Dr. Frazier, who took occasion to denounce the lodge from”hhTimlpit "ami delivered "fierce dissertation against this magnificent | piece of charity proposed by the organ- I ization, for the simple reason that the lodge in question has a club feiture attached. We cannot understand by what method of reasonig the good doctor is proceeding. Charity, it matters not whence it comes is always a token aiid a symbol of the very best there Is in one, whether it be an individual or an orgaization. The Elk's, primarily, is a benevolent organization, while it hns of course a social feature, there are higher and nobler objects in its tenents than the one of pastime and amusement. We certainly do not see. cause for the tirade of the doctor and while not questioning his sincerity wc are forc ed to the conviction that his judgment in this case was totally bad. However, the Christmas tree at Rome was a success, the other church es in the city aided in the cause, thous ands of little tots were made happy and the Rome elks have set an ex ample that could he well emulated hv their brothers in this city as well as in other sections of the state. Brunswick's city council is to elect city officers in the course of two weeks and there is no scramble for the places Verily times are better in this neck of the woods. Maoon does not tax her newspapers on the ground that they are public benefactors. It Is indeed refreshing in these days of “do the newspaper If you can" to find one city that really appreciates her newspapers. Albany Is fighting the poor service of the Atlantic Coast Line between that city and Brunswick. We have been dodng that for a year but the re sults have not been as lull and com plete as we woaild like to have had them. Still they have desisted from the old habit ol’ running box-flat car passenger trains into and out of Bruns wick. SHERIFF SALE. State of Georgia, County ot Glynn.
