Yesterday vas another busy day
with the superior court and quite a
number of criminals were tried. In
the case of tha state vs. J. P. O'Quinn,
charged with tdrgory, the jury return
ed a verdict of guilty with the recom
mendation of the mercy of the court
and Judge Parkef sentenced the
young white man to servo two years
on the ohaingang or pay a fine of S3OO.
Two heads of SSOO each were forfeit
eb, the cases being against Alfred
Turney. The first case called charged
him with assault with intent to min
cer, and he not being present, the
.bend of SSOO was forfeited. The
.other charged him with simple larceny
and a rule nisi was taken on a bond
of a like amount.

v. P. Morgan &. Cos., Prepared to Pay

New York, Dec. 14. —It was an
nounced today that J. F. Morgan &
Cos., have given notice to members of
the Atlantic Coast Line syndicate,
formed to underwrite the bonds issued
to pay for a controlling Interest in
the T ouisvilir and Vfashville railroad
company and that they are prepared
to pay the profit securing from tbo
operations of the syndicate to Its
t embers.
This profit is said to amount to
about -ioven ncr com. on the invest
ment. Including the dividend declared
some time ago.

mowd gathered at the depot toduy to
see Mrs. f’badwick who arrived

She quickly got in a closed cab,

The federal grand jury today found
seven indictments against Mrs. Chad
wick four against Beckwith and four
against Cashier Spear ,of the Oberlin
bank.
Mrs. Chadwick, soon after her ar
rival, was taken to the jail. She
seemed to bo apparently in a good
humor until she Was escorted to her
cell in the dungeon. The cell was
rather a dilapidated looking one, tha
windows being broken out on both
ides an chne call presented rather
at. uncomfortable condition. She al
most completely collapsed when she
saw it and for a few minutes hesitat
es entering.
The case is attracting great atten
tion in t,nis c, y and the final result
iv being anxiously awaited, it Is not
known exactly when her case will bo
called for trial.
RUSSIAN TORPEDO BOAT
FIRES THREE RUSSIAN SHIPS
Washington, Dec. 14. —The Japanese
legation bore' this afternoon received

torpedo boat set afire three Russian
ships by bombardmenf, aud that they
were all destroyed.
Further particulars were not given
but il is thought that the torpedoboat
fired upon the ships by mistake.

Muchen, Oh., Dec. 14. Burglars
have entered the postotlice at this
place prizing open the wlmlov shutter
and smashing tho sash. Papers and
diawors wort ransacked but the two
money drawers in which there was
about $25 were not molested
At the grocery storo connected with
the post office they missed tho money
drawer when there wa a small
amount of change, examining an emp
ty drawer. S.f far nothing has been
missed but a few cans of canned goods

are.
