SOME IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE BY THE
GRAND JURY PRESENTMENTS READ IN COURT YESTERDAY

We find the schools ably supervised

We note with rleasure the introduc
tion of vocal music la the city schools
We also night,y commend the atten
tion that li being given to Industrial
training in all the schools. We rec
ommend that the Risley school be giv
en greater shop facilities.
Shore are thirty-one white teachers
and twenty-four colored. About 70
per cent of the white children and
U, per cent of the colored are enrolled
In the public schools.
We heartily commend the growing
sentiment towards the public school
and bespeak a still greater interest
on the part of the citizens of 'he coun
ty in tailing advantage of the excel
lent educational facilities now offered
by them.
PUBLIC BUILDINGS.
Schools.
We find the schools are in good con
dition except the Mansfield street

building, and while those repairs are
being done, we would,recommend that
i ? new method of heating the rooms

I is very unsatisfactory.
Ccur.ty Jail.
■ The county jail was inspoued and
'while everything was neat and clean
we find the building old, and not fixed
properly for the different needs as
they aro wanted. l"ot Instance, we

town covering tho licenses for the sale
of whisky, which was $100.09 a year,
that whatever part of this remaining
in hand. If Is, the province of this
jury ho turned over to the county
treasurer to bo used by the board ot
iduoation in the improvement of tb*
school, conditions now existing at
Everett.

In the superior court yesterday the
case of j. M. Hoodenpy'.e vs. the
Brunswick and Birmingham railroad
v-as continued. This case was taken
bp Thursday morning and lasted until
‘yesterday when It. was finally post
poned until the fourth Monday In
January.
During tho trial of the case yester
day the attorney of the railroad com
pany made application to the court for
j. non-suit. Judge Parker was consid
uing this mot inn and it was ‘ndicated
that it would be granted when Judge

and Birmingham. The non-suit was
