THE SALISBURY LYNCHING.
The lynching of three negroes at
Salisbury, N. t'., was a thoroughly dis
graceful and outrageous affair and re
tleets upon the eutire state. The ne

two children. They had beeu In Jail
at Charlotte, an adjusting county, for

city and placed on trial at a special
term of court called for the hearing
of those specific cases
There was every reason to believe
that there would be no delay in the

The lynching constitutes on. of the
most flagrant acta of defiance of the
constituted authorities that has been
witnessed in the south In many years
In the first place the guiit of the a,~

secondly the machinery of the law
had been set in motion to determine I
whether or not they were guilty, lb •
trial actually being in progri amt j
thirdly, if convicted there wa reason
to expect that the extreme penalty oil
