It is estimated that he will go into the convention with a sufficient number of votes to receive the nomination on the first ballot. While reports have been received jicm) every county in the state It is impossible to give the exact num ber of counties carried by him, as several are reported doubtful, while it has been impossible to get aecur returns from others. At flip head quarters of Hoke Smith it is claimed tjiat he has carried between 100 and 135 counties. In Fulton, the home of the two At lanta candidates, Hoke Smith won over Howell by a majority of nearly 8,000. Close Call in Chatham. Savannah, Aug. 22.—Hoke Smith made a great race in Kstill’s home and came near carrying the county. Estill’s majority was less than 500. Howell’s Stronghold. Columbus, Aug. 22.—Muscogee county, once conceded to he Clara Howell’s stronghold, went overwhel mingly for 'Hoke 'Smith today.
