THE BRUNSWICK DAILY NEWS. VOLUME 5. NUMBER 261. .BRIISWIGK IAS KICK AGAINST ttfiL. Fresh Water Steamer \ill hot late-freight Frol Merchants ) fob ihe mm nuns Has Refused Several Shipments Ten dered By Brunswick Wholesale , Houses —Handles Only Mal lory Line Freight. Brunswick merchants have a ser ious kick against the frtfih water steamer tNan Elizabeth, which has been running between Macon and Bruswlck for the past several months and unless some changes are made by the company which intends io operate a regular line hereafter, the new company will receive a cold water reception In Brunswick. Wlille the line could mean consid erable to Brunswick, In the past it has served only as a comp liter to the city, according to the statement of several leading wholesale flyms. The .whole trouble seems to be that the Nan refuses to take freight offered by merchants for river points but when she leaves Brunswick her cargo is made up entirely of freighr from the Mallory steamer for river points and Macon. , , ,J tSSmSi * It is known that several weeks ago the Downing Company tendered, the Nan a shipment for one bf iffp jxlintr. touched by" the steamer/ bat the freight refused and ho .excuse given, tt Is known that other wholesale houses have tender ed the Nan freight with Ihe same result. ' MS- On the other hand when the steam er leaves Ma on she takes freight from all the merchants of that cUv for any point along the river. It can therefore be seen that the line is dis criminating against, the Brunswick merchants, Local concerns have many customers along the river route and they could ship the freight, via the Nan at a reduced freight, rate but under orders from somebody, the commander will not accept the freight, it is aIBO stated that the Nan har, refused to bring cargoes to this city tendered at points along tlie river. Just why this discrimination no one seems to 'be in position to say but the Nan will either have to change her tactics of the new company, which has just been organized in Macon, under the name of the Macon ana BrnnsvrtcK Navigation Company, will meet rather a warm reception at this end of the line, A line of boats on the Octnulgce and Altftmaha rivers between Macon and Brunswick could be made a paying investment, but ft will have to be fair to ail places touched by the steamer. If the Macon merchants want t<* get the business in Bruns wick's territory they must go out after it, for it can never be done by shipping over the Nan, when she refuses to take freight from this port. Brunswick now enjoys an excellent business from many of the points along Che two rivers and all freight nfra- Iho Tfllll'flflilfi Wl 111 D ou/*/vw * a regular line of steamers run all freight would be to them, which would pay handsomely to the owners of the steamers. If the line is put in operation as is anticipated, some changes will cer- made, because the Brunswick merchants will ship over U and expect the steamers to accept freight. f GROCERY STORE CHANGES W. The opinion of Judge Emory Speer in the case of William M. (fuddle compliuuinaiit, against Frank li. .fftun ami others have been received and tilt'd in the clerk's office. Tho complainant ks a citizen of Not Ih Carolina and brought his lit 1 i to dissolve a partnership composed or the three defendants and hftnself. Ihe ease involves about twenty five thousand acres of valuable hard wood tinier on the Ocniulge river near Lumber City. The pan ms in the caSe signed an agreement- to acquire options on this timber land and sell it at the profit that would arise from the increased values of getting a large body of land together so that the tim ber could be readily milled. Mr. Uaddio alleges in the bill that Mr. Maun was attempting to exclude him and his other partners from all protits in the business. The case tried at lake Toxawny was on a rule to show cause 'why the temporary in junction ai*L receivership should am be made and on a motion by the defer, dant'**’,',ym u> give bon 1 and have the proper turned over to him by the receiver. Judge Speer held that Goldie hau brought Ills bill in proper form and that the Atourt had jurisdiction. 1L also dotted that the defendants vem-wnlfol the partnership options in hiv own name and attempt to ami the timber to Ids own advantage whs an exclusion of the other partner from their rightful share ofp tin pt-cfils.
