Letß see now, who was Harry K. Thaw and what did he do? Rook out tor the explosion of a po litical bomb In Brunswick shortly. Dick Russell has gone to lecturing. His subject Is "A Georgia Cracka.-'s Race for Governor.” We have not heard the words “South Georgia Candidate'' mention ed In about three weeks. Is everybody In the state of Ve-- mont name Proctor AU the office holders have that name anyway. Visit the A., B. & A. terminals and see for yourself what this great rail road system Is doing In Brunswick. Maybe Mr. Roosevelt ls> going to Panama on three warshMs so 'as he can Btep off aajd_( Cuba once more. wUragffi ‘ It you don't think ' s (growing. Just stand •“bile anu the procession ol Kw win run over you. 'jf • Well, who's surprise# a ae an nouncement that Mayo* McClellan fa vors Jerome for IRWternor of New York? J Have you noticed how quiet some of the Georgia peanut" politicians have been sfnoe that fatal primary gust 22? t The Macon News does not want the spelling /retfojrmers to meddle with “money.’’ it thinks that word Is al ready short enough. Monday was September tenth, <*ue month hence will be October tenth, and two mouthß hence November .tenth. Then what? One hundred first-class carpenters could easily find work In Brunswick at preset. Much building is prevent ed by the lack of labor. Gainesville had a public hanging Monday and the execution was wit nessed by several thousand people. The negro made a full confession on the gallows. The democrats materially cut down the republican majorities in Maine Monday. Repre*ent*Uive narrowly escaped being defeated, re ceiving a majority of only 1,000. The county commissioners at a meeting yesterday, flwgrt the tax rate present yegr at $7,55 on the SI,OOO. But then those who have uo property will not be interested in this news. £ Look at the difference between Bey* an and Parker. They have both# ." defeated for president; one Is oeivlng the attention of country, the other —well, we ffl ber his name. ' It seems that Brunswick a(fH cross are keeling mco wllß k Other in their rapid gndM are two of the nejfl anyway, *v * 'Jj|| THE UNIVERSItV t)Aki(Z§H. j At Princeton, N, S., the tv. C. T U. Is much disturbed over the fact i that there is connnected with the university a "canteen, so called a club” where students and professors may enjoy liquids of various degrees of strength. The temperance union, of course wants the club abolished, but in this case they are met with greater problems than those experien ced in the movement against the army canteen. It Is a matter of simple fact that what the average student wants he manages to get, especially if he cooper ates with his fellow members of the Hot Club or of the association ] of Down and Outs, or what other fra-! ternal organization he may belong to in the accomplishment of his dread purpose. If is also a matter of fact that there Is a certain percentage of students who want an occasional drink of something more or less strong | and r.o matter whether the colleg town is dry or "probe" they rarely fall to get what they want. If it isnt at hand they "order it out." The queston with Princeton, ther fore. Is wnether it is advisable lo hav - the drinking members of the student body go to the saloons or to allow offer the student no Inducements sav - drink and In frequenting them he Is allured to over indulgence. The club however, allows no drunkenness and offers many attractions other than the 'buffet and rather dlso.o-.irag' - drunkenness than encourages It. While it is true probably that more men would frequent the clubs than the saloons It is not. well to overlook that part of the the student body who are driven to their own rooms by dis continuing the club and there glv< their "blowouts” with injuring fre quency. The question Is a nice one and ii the clubs In question ate abolished by the university It will be the firs' Instance In which an instlutlon ot Us kind has Instituted a crusade against moderate drinking among its students. 'ITUs also leads to the question as to whteUer or not it i wisdom from the standpoint of the lu stltutiun itself. ROOSEVELT VS. BRYAN. The World, the Herald and the aim all published in New York, united th declaring Mr. Roosevelt must run again without regard to his pledge to th contrary and the unwriiun law against third terms. They simply see that in no other way can William .1 Bryan he kept out of the white house. Behind these papers and others like them stand the rapacious ami audio ious army of tariff beneficiaries who are lined up “to a man in favor i Mr. Roosevelt tor a third term. * At heart he is a revenue tariff man and made this plain statement before he became president hut now he is a standpatter of the Nelson VS. Aid rich type. His courage failed him when he confronted the of tariff beneficiaries and this m. .his another shffib fund approaching abou, $10,000,000 may be rolled up to buy the election. No bill, no real bill, requiring pun ltclty of campaign funds will he pass ed next winter or any other winter. None was passed last wlpter. Wo are to have in opposition to Bryan a mixture of tariff politics and slush money and Theodore Roosevelt wll carry the standard.— Birmingham On to Birmingham by January 1 G the cry of the A., B. & A It would take mt ot the greatest accauntgnts in the world to figure out how many fives are lost in Russia . mt,~ ~n>rinflsvv r\f thnr eaCQ *.*AS jv.tfiAiawv.w.*.
