If Secretary Root does not hurry back to Washington the lid will be out of position. Wonder how long before the Bruns wick board of trade will come out ot its summer quarters? Brother Pratt is awfully quiet about 'that trolley line. Maybe he has struck an upward grade. The board of health and the city council might tit least say yes or no to the Southern Bell people. So this Is the Jewish year &GG7. Surely our Jewish friends got a very long start on the rest of mankind. Go down to the meeting of the Com mercial League this afternoon. Wake up and get in the line of march. -.1 rrtbio Freddie Fa union Is ready to do chat Aguinaldo act on any f those old Insurrectionists down in Cuba So they have found graft in the array u.' tin- Philippines. Mow Hue old woru do. s float around this conn try of oura. If Secretary Taft will Just draw that big stick on thos revolutionists why of course they will all take to the woods. Taft has landed in Culm and now if he will stop on one or two of those little fellows who arc Insurrecto, all will he well. Wua; a bug-bear the word poltt Ic-b is to certain Brunswick people and how they love to holler it on tho slightest provocation. The people who reside in the south ern section of the city are clamoring for anew school house, and they ought to have It. That Rawlings hunch still manages to dodge the hangman's noose. That.s one reason why there la so much crime In Georgia Brunswick needs a Jam-up apart ment housement house and such an investment would pay handsome divi dends to its owners. Georgia needs and really must have an immigration commission. The next legislature should enact the law and render Its slate a signal ser vice. ii Well there Is one consolation for the Brunswick small boy who will have to go to school Monday. A couple of clrcusses are beaded this way. The Macon and Brunswick Naviga tion Company, through President W. E, Small, disclaims any intention to discriminate against Brunswick. Let's, ac.ept tl.e statement in the same spir it or fairrik-sf, in which we are per wadtd iieve u was given THE COMMERCIAL leAbue The News make* an earnest appeal to the business men of the city and especially those who are members of the Commercial League ic save ilia splendid organization from going to pieces. Certain members of the lea gue are bent upon working its des truction for reasons manifest only to themselves, the fruits of a badly ; diseased civic condition here ir. Brunswick. This organization has a great work ahead of it; a work where petty spius and small prejudices should have nu place, a patriotic work for a rapidly growing city and a work that ’ will result in great things for Bruns wick in the immediate future. Tie News understands that there is a di position on the part of certain mem bers to desert the organization b cause its action on one or two mat ters was not in accordance with their individual views on these subj' rt Surely that's a poor way of tarry lug one's point anil we are indulging the hope that we have been misin formed in this matter. If members of the league are not content with any action of the or ganlzation, the projx-r way to right their grievances is to come before the league and state them, backed with sound reasons and 'business propositions. ..That’s the business vw to take of it. Don't skulk In your tents. Como forward as business men and reason together, always keeping the inter ests of Brunswick squarely In the mind's eye. A special meeting of the league is called in the grand jury room at t o’clock this afternoon and all mem bers should be present. The future existence of the organization may de pend on this meeting and every loyal Brunswickian, who has the interest, the growth and the full ami tborougn development, of Brunswick at heart, should be there promptly at the hour named. Tills is indeed a serious matter and It is sincerely to be hoped that tlie meeting this afternoon will be ■fndl m f (tnthuftiasm and will mark the dawning of a brighter day for the league and will cement the mem bers In a resolve to forget personal matters and labor only for the mater ial progress of this great little city we all love so well A VERY LAME EXCUSE. Not a few newspapers in the north; have been abusing and denouncing the* rascality in the Philadelphia lieu! Es tate and Trust Company scandal on the ground that the acoutidre Hippie the ground that the sroumlrel Hippie and his conduct deserve the severest censure, but that is no excuse for sneering at (he Christian religion. The fact that the misconduct ol Hippie should attract so much atten tion and comment because ho was a professor of religion tttul a church man speaks favorably for both the church and for the precepts he pre tended to observe. Such cases are by no means common. It is an argument for rather than against religion nnu the church. It shows that the public expects and has reason to expect more from men who are sincerely identified with the work and objects of the church. We have no sympathy for people who seize every opportunity of this kind to sneer at the Christian re ligion and its influences for good. It is a lame excuse on their part, and no intelligent, rlght-thinging peo ple should be influenced by it. Phila delphia baa been had enough, heaven knows, in itk grafting, filching and stealing. But Jn the name of con science what would Philadelphia have been but for Ihe restraining In fluence and helpful example of the Christian religion and the church ’ We shudder to think. Those additional hundred thousand crosstJeg to he shipped through the port of Br -nwiek next month to the Panama railroad will shove October t - commerce upward. The demand for residences and cottages here In Brunswick is more urgent than L has ever been in ths history of the city and it is a pity ihr supply Is not there with the goods Slue Ribbon Beer.
