NUMBER OF COUNTY CONVICTS
SECURED TO ASSIST CITY IN
THE WORK
The work of putting in wooden
drains on Mansfield street from Union
to the river, was commenced yester
day morning by the city force, which
is being assisted by five county con
victs. who were loaned to the city.
These new drains, it is believed, will
serve to drain off the streets entirely
and will relieve the main drains to a
considerable extent.. They will be
placed on the surface and will merely
act as an auxiliary to the large drains.
The city believes that in erecting
these wooden drains all the water
which flooded Mansfield and other
noarbv streets whenever there is heavy
rains oi a flood tide, will be deliv
ered to tlie main pipes and that here
after the streets will be kept dry.
