More bed cover comes In pretty well these nights ■Well, W. R. Hearst Is immensely enjoying the notirlety he Is getting out of It. Those whiskers of candidate Hughes remThd one of Horr Moat, or most any old thing. The greatest trouble with the sim plified form of spelling is that It does not simplify. “Progress nud prosperity for Bruns wick" Is a platform good enough for the host citizen to stand on. Saturday seems to be a regular Held (lay for lynchlngs these days. Macon and Atlanta seem to favor that day. We are quite persuaded that one Mae Wood is Immensely Interested In the entanglements of the Platt family. What s that we hear, a third muni cipal ticket in the field? The more the merrier. Out with the announce ments. These cold snaps will not prevent the Wall street sharks from shearing the lambs If the latter ao not keep out of the way. Brunswick wants a whack at muni cipal ownership. We nave tried the ether thing and we are willing to take a shot ut that. Washington Is soon to have a bank which 1b to open all night. Now the grafters need not be worried by pre senting their checks by day light. The people of Brunswick have haa offered them a platform committed to “Progress and Prosperity," and muni cipal ownership Where will you thin a better one? President Atkinson gives the people of Brunswick more assurance when he Intimates that his company wtu soon start a passenger steamer serv ice from Brunswick to tne east. A1 Field Is right; It would tuke oven u bigger man than Teddy Roosevelt to build the trolley line here In Brunswick unless he chanced to have voted the proper ticket in the last city election. The people of Brunswick should welcome the arrival of the day when the cheap-screw politician and offlee nolder cannot get together in a pri vate law offlee and hand the people municipal candidates. The city council of Brunswick ought to redeem Its pledges to the A., B. * A., even If It has to fight the boara of education in the premises. A aa cred obligation on tbs pert of e muni /tfpelttr e*fct <* he kept tertelace &OME FOOD FOR THOUGHT. The News Is opposed to the present city administration for the simple fact] Cliat it 1s persuaded to believe that the public affairs of the city of Bruns j wfck during the past six years has j not been conducted lor the sole In-1 terest of the city of Brunswick. It has no axes to grind; it does not want any office within the gift of the city and it has no friends who are seeking such places. It is chained to no political faction in Brunswick; it.; editor is absolutely in control of the policy cf the paper, and it does noi. take its inspiration from any one man or set of men or office holders in this city. Therefore, being a Brunswick enterprise pure and simple, it has only the betterment of Brunswick at heart when it assumes attitudes touching upon matters of vital importance to this city. it has in times past found occasion to commend the city council an 1 oftener it. has been compelled to cen sure that body. This morning we in vite the people of this city to a calm and intelligent discussion of the atti tude of the city and the board of education with reference to the posi tion of the city on the subject of the ground upon which the A., B. & A. is erecting Its terminals. In the first place It was Town Commons property and required a special act of the legislature before It could be deeded In fee simple to any party. The coun cil In regular session adopted a reso lution pledging itself to have the necessary legislation passed giving it power to transfer the property to the A., B. & A. for a fixed consideration. When the bill came up in tho legisla ture. without knowledge to the A., 11. & A. people, tho board of education Hunt a delegation to Atlanta and uy arrangement with the member from this county absolutely blocked the passage of the bill. Now the boara of education la after all u part of tho city administration, and when It went to Atlauta on this kind of a mission, it certainly placed the clt> council in an unenviable attitude, that body having pledged its good faith to the passage of such legislation and the transfering of such property to the A., B. & A. All the worse does the matter appear when it is reflected that the A.. It. & A. liad in perfectly good faith gone ahead with its ter minals and were hard at work on them, the dredge Atlantic being here at work, when this very dlsgracerm thing occurred in Atlanta. The A.. B. & A. people have been the Industrial saviors of the city oj Brunswick and we ask the people oi tills city to say whether or not this is the character of treatment they deserve at the hands of the consti tuted authorities of Brunswick? The matter stands right where the tieorgia legislature left it. The A, B. & A. people are going right ahea 1 with the work, without a title to the property and stand ready to pay over to the city the amount agreed on for the purchase of the property, when ever the city places itself in position to deed the property according to its solemn promise made in resolution form in open council. Does this look like the administra tion is acting for the beßt interest oi Brunswick? Where is the man in Brunswick with the hardihood to say that the A., B. & A. has not abso lutely saved Brunswick from indus trial decay and where is tne man who will say that this treatment was whai the A., B. & A. deserved at the hands of the present powers that oe in Brunswick? If one will stop to re fleet it will not be a difficult matter to find the reason that is the true reason back of this stand-and-deliver policy recently resorted to in certain quarters. We may look further Into this mat ter very shortly. The Brunswica Kiflenion are think ing of going to work and building a combination armory' and auditorium of their own. That's the proper thing, boys. Get right down to work and the good people of Brunswick will hetp the move along.
