There was no “swere storm” In Brunswick Saturday flight as reported in the Savannah News and Atlanta Constitution. Such reports are dam aging and should ''not be sent out. The wind only blew a little above an ordinary blow and not a dollar worth of damage was If you are a tax Py#r and a prop erty holder of Brunswick, then you o>Mt desire to see Brunswick grow afld prosper/ If you desire to see JBfnßswfck grow and prosper, you should rote for ,tbe candidate for mayor who stands for 'Progress end THE WHITE PRIMARY NOT AN ISSUE. As the organ of the solicitor of the city court is still endeavoring to fool the people into the ibelief that the candidates on the People’s ticket for mayor and council, as well as the candidates themselves are opposed to tKe white primary plan, it may be well to point out a few convincing reasons to show the utter falsity of such Insinuations, in the first place, the question of a white primary Is not. and can not be made an issue in the present campaign. It was settled, and we hope for all time three or four years ago, and every candidate for office nominated by the mass meet ing of the voters of Brunswick, have Announced fhat their candidacy is subject to the white primary to be called by the city democratic execu tive committee. Then again, when this question was first agitated four years ago, Col. Godyear, the present candidate for mayor on the People’s ticket attended the only nass meet ing held during the campaign, and made a very strong address In be half of the white primary pinn, ffirt only for the city, but for the county and the state. He has never changed his mind on the subject and is still committed to that plan. It is reaPy amusing to note how short of mate rial Our good friends must be when they find it necessary to resort In such rot as this for campaign issues, j The candidates of the People’s j ticket and the supporters of those candidates are committed and pledged j to the white primary system and no i one Is better acquainted with that j tact than Is the politician-lawyer city court solicitor, who it. Is understood. Is responsible for trie editorial matter appearing In bis organ. We beg the pardon of our readers tor this statement, for wo are quite tuire that they have sense enough to understand uiat the white primary is not now an Issue 'before the people of this city. There are some issues, however, of paramount Importance to Brunswick and her people and they will be referred to all during the cam paign In these columns THE SOUTH ASLEEP. Southern technic* and trade jour nals are loudly complaining that comparatively few lyoung men of the south ate taking uj technical educa tion. and that most of those who do are going to the nortp and yvest to find employment. This condition is mourned over, and we are assured that all it la necessary for the south to do to completely/ remedy It is to “wake up.” Now, assuming that we have waked, let us look at the situa tion a little. Wages for tins class ot enterprising, active, selected young men are low in thV. south, and they are subjected to a peculiar competi tion which will keep them low for a long time. j The northern scluiols. naturally better than our own,/of higher repu tation, whose diplomas carry greater weight, are constantly turning out a surplus of gradua/es. Of these a large proportion ik fellows of deli cate health and iiAsufflcient strength, so that every one/of them who feels unequal to a contest with the rugged and severe climate of his native re gion turns his to the south, ills chief idea Is to gk where lie can en dure the climate and receive benefit to his health —with lue hope of com plete restoration oa thfdiug a job where bis daily state will find him equal to the work. Hence, with him. wages are at first iy trifling consider atiou—but none tluJ less his standard of what he is willing to take and get along with is a great factor in de termining the wages of the class to which he belongs/ Under this stiwe of things the ac tive, vigorous, tuneful, qualified young southerner buy J his ticket to other regions where Be can have a better show. There is \{iorjyjmdi for this condition of things, and It it merely treated here in the slight jhope ot putting an end to the cry to the south to “wake up." The south /is awake and making progress In e/ery direc tion and channel, notwithstanding its numerous handicaps. Wuen one of its capitalists wants au7 expert he gets the best he can obtain for the least money. tv hen the capable young man of this section becomes an ex pert he goee where he/ can get (be most money for hie services. There seem* to be no scarcity of experts in the south, though they may not be ail to the manor born. The south is not probably suffering from the lock of devotion to technical lines by its young men, nor" by their failure to stay huie to pursue their avoca lfA* THI 6RUN6WICK DAILY NSWB, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 1905. ■tf Ask youf doctor about these throat coughs.
