HO STORM HEBE SATURDAY NIGHT UNWARRANTED NEWSPAPER RE PORTS SENT LEADING PAPERS MAY HARM BRUNSWICK. Sensational newspaper storfos often do a city incalculable harm. The fol lowing sent out from Brunswick to the Savannah News Sunday contains little if any truth: “Tne Storm at Brunswick. Drove Water Into the City, but Did Little Damage.—The storm struck Brunswick about mid night last night and raged three hours. The wind reached a velocity of forty to fifty miles an hour. The tide this morning was the highest it has been in several years, forcing the water into Newcastle street. It receded quickly, however, doing no damage. The cable to St. Simons is down.” In the first place, there was no "storm at Brunswick.” and no water was “driven into the city.” Asa mat ter of fact the spring tides of tue past five or six days have caused some water to reach parts of Mans field street and one or two south of it and this was no doubt the result or recent bad drainage. There is abso lutely no truth in the report that the wind reached a velocity of forty to fifty miles an hour." The report states further that-"the cable to St. Simon is down,” which is tile only true statement in the item. As is well known, tne cable is “down nearly all the time, and the chances are tlie “storm” had noting to do with it.
