SOUTHERN STRIKE
■ GETS SERIOUS
NO agreement reached and
WORK IS AT A STANDSTILL IN
ALL THE SHOPS.
The strike of the engineers of the
Southern railway is reaching a seri
ous stage and unless something is
done towards a settlement pretty
shortly the road will more than likely
suffer and will be compelled to have
its work done at shops of other com-
Xanies.
The conferences which was held in
Washington last week terminated on
Saturday without any settlement.
The Southern officials were willing to
submit the differences to arbitration,
but the representatives of the mach
inists would not agree to this.
It is understood that there is much
needed work at ail of the shops ot
the road and the line is now running
short of engines owing to the fact
tnat there are no machinists to re
pair recent damages to engines.
