by the constitution that
eligible shall be "those who ad' de
scend* and in their own right from some
ancestor of worthy life, who came
to reside in an American colony prior
to 1750, which ancestor or one of nis
descendants being a lineal ascendant
of the applicant shall have rendered
efficient service to his country durlug
the Colonial period either in the
founding of a common weal of
an institution which and
•developed into or who
shall have posi
tion In the Colonial government and
who, by his* distinguished service,
shall have contributed to the found
ing of this great, and powerful nation”
Service* rchdered after 1770 do not
entitle to membership, but are ac
cepted on supplemental applications,
there being no admission except
through Colonial aheestry. This will
inform those who harbor the mistak
en impression that only the descend
ants of officers are eligible to mem
bership in this society, tnat such im
pressioh is erroneous us anyone who
can t>rove loyal Colonial ancestry,
who aided In any way the establish
, ing of his vountry, are eligible.
