RATE ONDiNANCE

From ail Indications a majority of
the members of city council ran up
against somewhat of a surprise last
night, when, under the head of ordi

in his place said no such ordinance

There was a look of astonishment,

COMING OF THOMAS JErFERSON
Well Known Actor Will be Here Next

The engagement of Thomas Jtf

who was the foremost actor of the
Ami rlcan stage, who was the best
eloved man in the country, and both
his popularity and tits affection In
which he was held have new descend
and to Thomas Jefferron, or, as he is
known, Jefferson the Fifth.
Thomas Jefferson comes from a
long lino of actors. He is Jefferson
the Fifth, and at the Player’s club
in Gramercy Park, New York, hangs
an old play bill of David Garrick, as
Hamlet, with that Jffe: oil, who
wa s Jefferson the First, Thomas Jef
ferson’s great grandfather, as the
king, he being also named Thomas
Jeff.:r. oil.
It is stated that the characteristics
of Joseph Jefferson are marked in
the work of the son, Thomas, who
carefully studied every subtle move
of his father as Rip Van Winkle; in
fact, that Joseph Jefferson lives in
the son.
Comparisons, however, are odious.
Thomas Jefferson liar, been playing
Rip Van Winkle for the pa-t eight
