GLYNN COUNTY'S NEW INDUS
TRIAL SCHOOL
Olio to tlif! liberality of Mr-, A. (>.
I*. Dodge. of St. Simon inland, the
lionrd of education was yesterday
placed In position to establish an in
dustrial school on St. Simon, open
to all of tho youths of Glynn county,
which promises to he a great boon
to our boys, who in the past have
not reflected any great credit upon
th ehorae of their birth. Mrs. Podge
with signal iddlantrophy, lias deed
ed to the board of education a site
on the- Island lino as tin- Law
rence tract of I’ecUnum home, co-ntst
lag of llirec hundred and fifty acre
which the board proposes to tram;
form into a splendid industrial school
for boys of iGiyim county where they
can go free of co‘t and educate and
equip thi mselves for a long and set
v(cubic life.
Tile I mar,A proposes to establish
the school on October first and will
begin with an attendance of about
twenty. Supt. Ballard says any boy
in the county above the age of tit
teen who is healthy in body and
mind, will he admitted to t.ie advan
tages of the Institution and will be
entitled to remain tilt re until lie has
become proficient and well enabled tr
care lor himself. This is a splendid
st< p on the part of the hoard of
education and it Insures to the young
er male element of the community
a splendid opportunity to secure a
fab indust itial education without a
dollar cost. The eslahlMting of such
schools all over the south Is one of
itte best indications along edueu
tionnl lines and the people of Itrttns
wick and Glynn county should return
sincere thanks to Mrs. Podge, tvho
donated the tract Of bind and a -plea
did house, ihe entire proptrty being
worth easily the sum of S.Ttino, "
There is no more Important theme
In Ihe south Just now than the one
of the proper education of the young
men of the section and we are pleased
- that the hoard of i duration ha- been
fortunate enough to find . the good
woman who Is willing to place those
great privileges in the hands of the
younger generation of Glynn county

"The Savannah Press was the first
paper to call attention to the chance
of this city to gel a West Indian
line of team ships by suggesting that
the Ocean Steamship Company ex
lend Its line of ships from Savannah
to Cuba.
"Just after the Atlanta, iltimlug
ham and Atlantic railroad put on a

West Indies, the Press railed atteti

portnnee of this enterprise and said
that It would be an ea y matter for
the Ocean St arm ship Company to run
a regular line from Savannah to Hu

was Upat the Central railroad com

Air. Atkinson’s tine to Brunswick and
that hundred- of,tons of stuff were.

"The attention ot the Prfess was

largest Industries In Savannah or in
the south This was about six
month ago. Since that time the
Press has repeatedly emphasized this
proposition and is glad to know that
there ts now a chance for this very
thing to come about, it would be a
