Cashiers of banka and other offi

nesa of the state are looking oven
opinions from their legal adviser
and consulting the law relative to
the maturity of papers due on a le
gal holiday.
This Is caused by the fact that Sat
urday, being a legal holiday, follow
ed by Sunday, brings together two
days on which papar cannot t'oe paid
The law Is somewhat
and a number of the bank officlaU
are of different minds about the mat

have to be paid on Friday and paper*
due Sunday would have to be paid
Monday. Others say the papers due
either day are payable on Monday.
The latter version Is no doubt cor
rect, and It Is given by those banks
which have fortified themselves with
legal opinions on the subject. Opin
ions bearing this out have been by tip
best knotte. lawyers In the state.
A curton* anomaly of the law Is the
law passeJ last August wiped out
the claustwof the previous law mak
ing a pap# which fell due on Monda'
a legalJrolldap, payable Tuesday.
The <lfatter. then fore, reverts back
to to former law and a note due on
a holiday, which falls on Monday, has
to be paid the preceding Saturday
